Shelter Operations Manager, Plano, TX - March 28, 2016
A typical day at work can be hectic and stressful with various tasks and duties to complete including meetings, training, records upkeep, hiring, interviewing, supervising, etc. It is important to keep in mind why we are doing this; for the betterment of the population we serve. I have learned an incredible amount in regards to non-profit organizations, management, supervising, collaboration, and transitioning from a direct care position to a management position.Management does their best, and what they can to aid all employees while balancing needs and desires of the board of directors. Co-workers are friendly, open to communication, and supportive. The hardest part of my job is staffing. This includes hiring people, disciplining those who are struggling to do their job, maintaining communication, etc. Scheduling is also a big aspect to staffing. Being on-call is also very challenging as it requires 24 hour attention and can be draining.I like working with the people, teaching, helping facilitate, and streamline aspects of the job to make it easier for the entire organization.
