My work day lasts for 8 hours, and it really depends on the time of year as to what I would be doing during a day. In the summer I would spend most of my time outside, watering and taking are of the plants as well as helping customers out there. After summer, I was moved inside where I would blow up balloons for people, help them find the flowers that they needed, make flower arrangements, and take down orders for people who needed to pick up something or have something delivered. During the holidays such as Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mother's Day, we get very busy. These are times that I would have to make candy bouquets and fruit baskets as well.
I learned how to provide friendly customer service, as well as how to take care of plants and what certain plants need. I also learned how to manage my time.
My manager is very reasonable. I typically only work the weekends because I am currently going through college, and the hours we have in the department don't really allow me to work much more than that anyway. My manager, another lady, and I are the only ones in the department, so we all communicate with each other.
Whenever I work, I more often than not work alone, which can get lonely and sometimes stressful. As far as the other people who work there in other departments, almost all of them are very friendly and easy to talk to.
The hardest part of the job probably is the holidays. It gets really busy and often times overwhelming during those times, and it's really hard for just three of us and very few hours to get done what we need to.
The most enjoyable part of the job is probably making the flower arrangements. I am a creative, artsy person, and so I enjoy making those and putting them out for people to see and buy.
