Utility Worker1 (Former Employee), Abilene, TX – November 17, 2014
Everything bout the city is great, except the pay. It was good for most but for my situation was not enough to provide, but really was a great place, friendly people, friendly supervisors, and family oriented work environment.
Good place to work, good team of co-workers and great hours to work.
Nursing Program Manager (Current Employee), Abilene, TX – September 20, 2014
Pros: work monday thru friday - no weekends or holidays
Cons: making sure the staff have all the same information for servcies and care provided.
City of Abilene has good benefits including vacation, sick leave and holidays. The pay is a little low for nurses, however it is offset with the Monday through Friday work week, no on-call, with week-ends – more... and holidays off. A typical day is hard to come by - every day is different with meetings, patient care if have staff call in sick, notating emails in regards to programs with updates or questions from the state - ordering supplies or approving supplies, updating policies, working on budget details, notes for staff meetings and inservices, especially if Quality Management Audits show a trend or pattern of deficiencies that need to be corrected with retraining of staff. I work as part of the management team and we have monthly meetings to stay informed of any local changes or state changes. I have oversight of all clinic activities that includes an overall staff of 20 team members (nurses and clerks). The hardest part of the job is making sure everyone knows the correct information about our services and care and are providing this. The most enjoyable part of the job is when the patient says thanks so much for all your care and attention and you have really helped me. – less
Overall, my experience led to being more aware of legal standards where municipal law is concerned. The environment could have been more professional and the pay grade could have been higher to speak to the duties of the position.
