General Statement of Duties:
Performs difficult technical and supervisory work planning, organizing and directing the work of a division and crews engaged in repair, replacement and installation of water and sewer lines and appurtenances.
Distinguishing Features of the Class:
An employee in this class plans, organizes, and supervises crews engaged in a variety of work associated with providing water distribution and sewer collection services to citizens. The employee serves as Operator in Responsible Charge of the water distribution system, sewer collection system, and as Cross Connection Control/Backflow Prevention system. Work includes supervising the construction, maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines, hydrants, meter and valves, pumping stations, and unstopping sewer lines. Work also includes planning work projects based on service extension needs, maintenance, and emergency needs; coordinating work with property owner; assigning crews to projects; inspecting work; and answering and resolving public complaints. Work also involves requesting and acquiring necessary resources for projects, and significant supervisory responsibility for crew efficiency, quality, and safety. Work requires considerable interpersonal, technical and administrative skills.
Desirable Education and Experience
Bachelors or Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Science or related area and considerable supervisory experience in water distribution or sewer collection system maintenance or construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Possession of a valid North Carolina class driver's license.
- NC Certification in Water Distribution (Grade A), and Wastewater Collection (Grade III).
- Certification for Cross Connection Control and Backflow Prevention.

Salary Range $45,855 to $65,508
