fun workplace but horrible upper level
Meter Reader (Former Employee) –  Port Orange, FLJune 7, 2016
The general workplace environment is a fun one. WILL find and make GOOD friends. Benefits for full time employees are actually okay(retirement and vision) I would NOT sign up for the pricey health plans, I brought in my own, suggest you shop around or do the same.
*CONS
MOST upper level management and supervisors are snobbish and unwilling to help nor LISTEN to lower paid coworkers.
PAY IS WELL BELOW SURROUNDING AREA COMPARABLE JOBS. Most of us with families signed up for as much OT as possible to bridge the gap.
A LOT of family members employed leading to those members' attitudes of laziness, undermining and 5 bosses per crew mentality.

support the "senior" guys.
Water Plant Operator (Current Employee) –  Port Orange, FLJune 2, 2015
you will get offered low pay. there are no raises. you will be working with "senior" guys making over 20.00/hour that voted out the step raises at their secret "union" meetings in 2008. so, they get 24 bux/hr., day shift, basically anything good. you get shifts that are left and 13 bux/hr. with no way to ever get to where these select "senior" (read UNPROMOTEABLE) employees are. there's a rumor about shift differential and midpoint employee raises, but suddenly those are on the "bargaining table" for the next "union" contract...even though you will never be informed where and when these "union" meetings are held. a toxic workplace. good luck.
Pros
nice breakroom
Cons
no advancement

Productive Office
Administrative Assistant V (Former Employee) –  Port Orange, FLJanuary 16, 2015
Answering phones and directing citizens to the appropriate departments. Learned the daily operation of a City. Management is eager to work together to produce the best possible outcome for the citizens. Co - workers are friendly and feel the pride of working for the City. Hardest part of the job was leaving when temporary job was completed. Most enjoyable part of the job was the environment.
Pros
working with a high level of well educated individuals who are committed to delivering the best.
Cons
cannot think of any.

Not for Everyone
Admin (Former Employee) –  Port Orange, FLApril 22, 2014
While management claims to be open to suggestions and receptive to employees views, the reality is that they are closed minded to anyone that does not agree with their view, they simply want their employees to follow and not question the direction they want to go. And should any employee question the perceived policy for a better definition, they are met with passive aggressiveness, all the while management seeking their misguided reasons for termination. Even though those people in positions of departmental management are usually the cause of the ongoing hostility, they are not perceived by the City Manager as having performed their duties in a harassing manner. Be weary of working in any administrative position within the City. You will be treated as a third rate citizen that unless you kiss up to management, you will not receive any accolades.
Pros
close to the library
Cons
poor pay, mgmnt narrowmindedness

offive assistant IV (Former Employee) –  Port Orange, FLApril 29, 2013
I received training in many aspects of records management, security, FL records laws, FEMA. I dealt with every aspect of society from internal customers and elected officials to hardened criminals and mentally challenged individuals. I was allowed to have input on improvements to the job and my direct supervisor always welcomed my input and ideas.
