Since 1983, the City of Thornton has provided grant funds to assist nonprofit organizations that help Thornton residents meet their basic needs and enhance their ability to be self-sufficient. Basic needs are identified as food, housing, health and medical, or human services, and will comprise 95% of the total funding allocation. City Council approved $70,000 for the 2012 Thornton Assistance Fund program. Nonprofits are required to meet the following criteria:


The nonprofit must be certified tax exempt under the Internal Revenue Service Code Section 501(c)3 or has a fiscal agent. Funding requests must be in alignment with the purpose of the grant. The program or services must demonstrate a benefit to the Thornton community.
