Fast paced, Fun
Admissions Advisor (Current Employee), Downers Grove, IL – May 8, 2013
Pros: company interaction with employees
Cons: little job security
A typical day consist of speaking to prospective students, Interviews, and submitting new enrollments. I have learned so much from this position through all the exstensive training that is provided. The management was out of this world when I started since then CTU has slowly lost alot of valuable members. I have truely enjoyed all of the co-workers – more... I have had the privledge to work with. The hardest part of the job is trying very hard to be good at your role, and not having much control over the results. The most enjoyable part of my job is getting to speak to new people all day long, learning about other peoples lives, goals, and cultures. – less

Revolving Door, good if you want to be Micro-Managed
Admissions Advisor (Current Employee), Downers Grove, IL – April 20, 2013
Pros: good pay
Cons: too sales driven for it to be education, no diversity, micromanagement
Good Pay, but too much emphasis on sales and not enough on integrity despite what they proclaim. For-Profit education at its best. Shelf life is about a year before your either fired or ready to pull out your own hair. Not a company concerned with diversity in the workplace.

Pros: relax atomsphere
Cons: micromanagement, cap on salaries
The managing staff is ok to work with. Just have to make sure that you have an understanding of what is expected of you. Be sure that you are able to adapt to the environment and keep up with the everchanging changes that can happen over hours or a couple days.

One of the most rewarding experiences I have had teaching others
Adjunct Professor (Former Employee), Sioux Falls, SD – January 15, 2013
Pros: the tool available to teach students, the willingness of students to learn, the material used to teach students, the deelopment of podcasts for asynchrnous lectures
Cons: the school provded old used laptop computers, the computers broke down consistently, the approach to teaching was different for each campus
I was introduced to CTU by a co-worker at VeraSun Energy Corporation (VSE). After meeting with the Dean of Students, he hired me for the first available course, Tax Accounting I&II the following quarter. I had to teach a group of professors first, before they would allow me to teach students. I found it to be challenging, a bit scary, but appreciated – more... the opportunity to show the professors that I was more than capable of doing the job. I enjoyed the trust factor, and immediately reached out to other professors in the department to introduce myself and to learn what was expected of me, I also, from prior experience, was determined to make myself available to the students at all times. I had office hours on Tuesday and Thursday, but never denied a student extra help or time to complete an assignment. I also provided them with additional tutoring in any given class I was teaching at the time, and they always showed their appreciation, The reward was immense, and I enjoyed the networking I had developed in my own education. I received my teaching certificate from the university and my performance paid off with some of the highest review ratings by students in the school's history. I was proud of my students and never hesitated to comment in a positive manner on their performance, and to explain how wonderful a job they had done, or to provide ways in which they could do better when they were having a difficult time grasping the subject matter. I too learned from the students, and realized as I had been taught in the past by my own professors, that we are all open to learning and processing new information. I loved teaching and seeing that sparkle in a student's eyes when they finally understood the topic. Specifically in Strategic Management and Tax Accounting I & II, where I had the same students both quarters. I utilized my daily work experience, what I had learned from my mentors while attending school, and working with the IT department to create asynchronous lectures that has the ability of utilizing PowerPoint, Adobe, and other sources of information within the creation of Podcasts where students could use ITunes to refresh the weekly lectures, and then upload them onto their phones, and or PDA devices. This was very successful and the students loved it, Sioux Falls provided a new cultural experience for me and I cherished the slower approach to achieving the same goals in a work/life balance that did not go at a 100mph pace. The Dean and other professors were always willing to listen to me, and I developed better ways to teach with each passing quarter. I was able to work full-time during the day and teach two classes in the evenings, CTU was my first experience, and I look forward to the opportunity to teach again. I noticed that the average age of an online student was about 35-40 years of age, and while I also taught in person courses, I was truly filled with gratitude over the success I had from teaching online courses. CTU is a growing university and I would love the opportunity to teach their again, or to use what I learned teaching for another university, – less

Customer Service
Medical Billing and Coding (Former Employee), Beaverton, OR – January 9, 2013
Pros: paid holidays, department potlucks, and employee of the month recognition
Cons: job opportunity is temporary not permanent, have to drive more than 25 miles
Going to work is a pleasant experience when you are in a team oriented environment. The day to day tasks consist of organizing myself and completing the list of things that must be done first. Processing medical claims for example means that I have to research a patient's medical record and identify any missing documentation that is needed to process – more... claims, documentation such as medical records, charts, notes, and eobs. I also have to verify medical insurance information and make sure that the patient has coverage. I look at a patient's account to see what problems exist with a patient's insurance, place phone calls to obtain eligibility information for the patient, payment information and what medical services are covered by the insurance. After examining a patient's claim, and if everything is acceptable, I can process a medical claim. If the claim lacks certain information, I create business coorespondence to providers, patients and insurance companies explaining the condition of a claim and requesting pertinent information and documentation that will allow me to complete claims processing. – less

A day at work
National Admissions Advisor (Current Employee), Downers Grove, IL – November 24, 2012
This job is definitely something that I really enjoy, and am passionate about. I will never go home and bring work home with me, they are very against that. They tell you, go home, unwind, then come back and do great tomorrow! I really enjoy hearing about student's goals and lives, and really look forward to helping them achieve their goals. If you – more... dont truly believe that school can change their lives, then the job is definitely not for you. – less

Great teammates and fun environment
Admissions Advisor (Current Employee), Downers Grove, IL – October 23, 2012
Pros: great co-workers
Cons: bad work schedules, work on weekends and late hours
A typical day consists of being on the phones all day long, talking to students. Some managers are excellent, others not so much. In order to be happy here, it will depend a lot on the teammates you work with because they are the people who will keep you sane in the end. The job itself is easy. All you have to do is have conversations with students – more... on the phone. The hardest part is trying to hit your numbers each month. Sometimes it could be an emotional roller coaster. The most enjoyable part is that since the desks are so close together, it feels like a big hangout when everyone is just waiting for a call to come through the phone. There is constant socialization, but also the drawback is that this could be mentally draining. – less

Pay was good/Work life balance was very poor
Director of Admissions (Former Employee), Schaumburg, IL – September 27, 2012
Pros: money
Cons: schedule and cookie cutter answers from sr. level managers when you seek real assistance
A typical day at work involved, organizing for the next day the day before. First order of the day was a fast meeting with my team members to set expectations and discuss what the obstacles are and how to overcome them. We would discuss our daily objective and how it will impact the larger monthly goals and company goals. Then I would analyze reports – more... to find trends and patterns and conducted a root cause analysis on how to go about coaching my employees through their challenges and how to play a larger role with their strengths, while also managing core competencies and behavioral goals and how they tie into the company goals.
My Managers were okay but I felt at times that they could not assist me in overcoming some challenges and often provide me with more cookie cutter answers instead of real assistance. However, my co workers were excellent and providing me assistance when I needed it. My fellow Directors worked well as a team, but were often bogged down with their own objective needed to manage their individual teams. As a result larger decisions went unnoticed and often created a sealing for growth.
The hardest part of the job was managing different points of view and personalities. This required a lot of one on one type coaching and follow up which created a very busy schedule which I enjoyed very much. I loved the challenge of getting strong personalities to see the larger picture through coaching and follow up on helping them reach their goals by providing a customized plan catered to them. I would say this was the most challenging however rewarding at the same time.
One of the less desirable parts of the job was the work hours. They were often early in the morning, late at night, and on the weekends. The schedule can be difficult for those with families. The pay was really good, however not very conducive in regards to raising a family. – less

Good People there
Federal Work Study (Current Employee), MO – July 23, 2012
There are alot of really good people that could make it a really enjoyable work experience. Unfortunately there are also alot of really bad people who seem to be disinterested in helping students or working in general.
