Advertised Summary Job Description:
The Senior Associate Dean is the senior administrative officer of the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and works closely with the Dean to direct the day-to-day operations of the School. The Senior Associate Dean also works closely with the Dean and other faculty and staff on strategic planning and development for the School and implementation of all major initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate the efforts of the following officers of administration and serve as their supervisor in close coordination with the Dean: Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, Associate Dean for Communications and External Relations, Executive Director of Information Technology, Executive Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, and the Executive Director of Career Services.

2. Coordinate the efforts of the faculty directors of the Program in Economic Policy Management, the Program in Environmental Science and Policy, the Picker Center for Executive Education, and the Master of Development Practice.

3. Coordinate the effort of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in close collaboration with the Dean, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and other relevant senior faculty.

4. Serve as SIPA's key liaison with the President's Office and the Provost's Office on all issues except faculty appointments, which are managed by the Vice Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and manage the SIPA Global Fellows Program.

5. In consultation with the Dean, provide strategic direction to the development of international educational partnerships with graduate schools outside the United States. This includes the development of dual degree programs, faculty exchanges, and international executive education programs (the latter in close collaboration with the Executive Director of the Picker Center for Executive Education).

6. Act as SIPA's key administrative liaison to the Global Public Policy Network (GPPN). Serve as the key administrative liaison to Columbia institutes and centers affiliated with SIPA, particularly the regional institutes, the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy, and the Earth Institute.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant:

Bachelor's degree and an advance degree required. Must have a minimum of 10 years of related experience, including strategic planning and staff management.

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant:

Demonstrated skills in problem assessment and resolution as well as collaborative problem solving in a complex, interdisciplinary setting required. Must possess excellent communication skills with evidence of successful leadership and administrative/supervisory experience. Must be a results- and goal-oriented individual with the persistence and patience necessary to work effectively with a variety of internal and external constituents. Demonstrated ability to partner with senior level staff of academic and administrative divisions required. Ability to detect emerging trends and encourage and make recommendations for innovative change essential.

Significant organizational and management experience required. Must have a demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and lead team efforts. Knowledge of information systems technology essential. Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral presentation skills required.

Preferred Qualifications
PhD or professional degree such as an MBA or MPA strongly preferred.
