Education, Site Coordinator (Former Employee), Mt. Pleasant, TX – January 19, 2014
Pros: flexible work schedule
Cons: long hours and usually have to take work home to complete.
I am member of various communities which keep me busy most of the day. I meet regularly with the principals to make sure the afterschool program is on tract with the day-school. I plan and direct activities as well as payroll for 10 employees on a daily basis. I enjoy the research I perform to make sure the student's activities are enjoyable and life – more... long learning projects. – less
Adjunct Professor (Current Employee), IA – January 2, 2014
Pros: it was enjoyable work that paid the bills.
Cons: not full time with no prospect of ever becoming full time.
The adjunct professor position was challenging in several ways. It was also greatly enjoyable because of my fellow instructors. As an adjunct there were no benefits (leave, vacation, insurance) and the pay was a fraction of what full professors made. The challenges I faced dealt with having 6 different courses to teach. Which courses I taught any given – more... semester depended on what enrollment numbers were for the courses. Changes in text books caused frequent changes in preps previously made. My co-workers were very intelligent and often had zany humorous quirks. It made going to work exciting and a daily adventure. Management was generally hands-off. They realized we had our own expertise and skills, and they honored our autonomy. They were open to requests for assistance in dealing with student related problems or approaches to teaching techniques.
My experience was generally a good one, and quite educational for me as well. – less
Pros: $1 employee lunches... (just began), affordable continued education for you and immedicate family if it is a benefit you can use, nice people
Cons: work till 6 pm... pay does not match workload or performance in most areas.
My particular position is overloaded; especially for the pay.. While other positions are extremely lax... with the same or very similar amount in pay. A co-worker was moved out of her position working directly with me and her and the work was "given" primarily to me... no monetary compensation was offered or even discussed. All overtime worked needed – more... to accomplish this coverage is comp time... but if I am sick or family sick... they use that rather than pay me for the time earned. – less
