Community First is the 9th largest credit union in New South Wales and the 23rd largest in Australia based on total assets. We have over 70,000 Members, thirteen Financial Service Stores and over $700 million in funds under management.
Community First was formed in 1959 as a credit union solely for Salaried Officers of the Metropolitan Water, Sewerage – more... and Drainage Board (Sydney Water). By 1970, we had expanded our services to all employees of that organisation.
In 1974 we opened a number of financial service stores in the areas where our Members lived and worked - at Penrith, Liverpool, St Marys, Bankstown and Eagle Vale. To make these stores more viable, our credit union's membership bond was expanded to cover firstly those people employed in industries located in close proximity to our stores, and ultimately to the community at large.
