Supplying a definite need; own schedule; Satisfaction of helping people
Caregiver (Former Employee), Fort Lauderdale, FL – May 20, 2013
Pros: good association
Cons: having to double the trips in one day
Most of the time appointments are schedule in advance and theirfore I knew my time schedule. Planning for extra time as waiting in a doctors office, etc. I like hearing about history thru the eyes of an older person, local and world history to compare what technology we have today. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt (help in the doctors offices)... – more... Explaining to client what happened or when things change on the spur of the moment. Having alot of free time to help everyone. – less

Highly Productive and Demanding Assistant Job
Personal Assistant (Former Employee), NYC/Los Angeles, CA – April 26, 2013
Pros: comfortable pay, great benefits
Cons: 6 day work weeks, 7th day on call. nearly a 24/7 job
daily i woke up early and went to each of the family members rooms to check in and see what they wanted to do. they would give me a list of things to research and id look everything up. i would also set up times and dates for events, shows, lessons, lunches, dinners, etc. also en route and between meetings i would do any other side work for the family. – more... most importantly id accompany the family members to anywhere and everywhere they asked. i helped family feel comfortable and welcome.

a typical day i was on iphone/ipad/computer researching and typing and contacting half of the day, accompanyment during daily activities.

hardest part of my job was actually the most challenging and surprisingly enjoyable. which was making all the events and plans for the family as best as i could. including making and changing plans, researching especially in certain areas i wasnt familiar with. – less

Management I can see eye to eye with cause im on the mamagement team as well. & I know what to look for of my co-wrokers. As a basic humanitarian, I preferred positions that served vunerable populations.
Senior Home Care Giver (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – October 10, 2012
A typical shift with the Victor C. Neumann Association was to first read/review staf notes about any unusual behaviors via clients. I became a better and focused listener and observer of behaviors, voice tones and eye contcts or a lack thereof, that usually alerted or cued a clients' mood. Our management staff was outstanding. In that they were understanding – more... about the rights, and concerns that front -line workers were exposed to. My former co-workers-were great, because team work was very necessary as we worked with and monitored a range of mentally challenged clients with various disabilities. The hardest part-of-the-job was the often-times overnight shift. To remain alert and focused in behalf of the population at about 4:a.m. was often-times taxing on my psychic in order to remain awake and responsible. The most enjoyable part of the job, was to witness an accomplishment of a client that was previously very ill. However, due to medications, counseling sessions, living skills trainings and additional wrap around services, a particular client would seemingly become socialable. Or request to self-transport, or even bette, participate in an activity that was previously avoided.
I found that the Companion position was rewarding in that I worked with seniors and elders, that provided me with another perspective about life. Because I often listened to their life stories. Stories about their youth, parents, culture, spouses, as well as their professional and non professional contributions to society. – less

Helping my client with everyday tasks
Companion/Marketing Coordinator (Current Employee), Sarasota, FL – August 18, 2012
I would run errands, perform light house keeping duties and prepare meals. It has made me want to further my career in the healthcare field. The hardest part of my job is seeing my client suffer. I had to call the ambulance because she felt she might be having a stroke. The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing how much of a help I am to my client. – more... The simple tasks that I take for granted she appreciates day in and day out. I get to make a difference in my client's life and that is very rewarding. – less

Arlene King Companion/Home Care Non Medical (Current Employee), Homosassa, FL – May 30, 2012
Pros: weekly bonuses due to my flexibility
Cons: long hours
I worked twelve hours a day, 7:30 am to 7:30 p.m. A typical days work consisted of assisting my clients with rising in the morning, cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner, bathing, doctor's appointments, hair appointments, shopping for groceries and other home maintenance supplies. Driving my clients to their membership dinners and other functions. Assitsing – more... with bill paying, banking, Coordinating holiday functions and numerous other details of daily living.

I learned that each day would bring an entirely new experience from the previous day's work. The hardest part of the job was learning to be very flexible due to my clients ill health of dimentia and alzheimers disease.

The most enjoyable part of my job was working for myself and being compensated at a pay rate equal to my hard work and enthusiasm. – less

Very interesting place to work a lot of variety a lot of activity an no boredome
Scheduler, Comfort Keepers (Former Employee), Santa Fe, NM – April 11, 2012
Basically my day began at 8am recieving phone calls and putting the data into the computer. Also scheduling caregivers with clients . Made up weekly schedule so that the caregivers would know who and when they were working for. Took on shifts if no caregivers were available. I worked from home and really enjoyed the flexibility and getting to know my – more... co-workers. Attended weekly meetings to establishe goals and talk about any issuses that came up. The hardest part of the job was getting caregivers for people who had emergencies, and who were sick. Some times I had an hour to find some one and make sure they were taken to the client's house and introduced by the office staff.I learned about how the alderly and disabled people needed our services to help them with Activities of daily living, some one who would listen to them, mutual respect, that it is a privilage to enter some ones home and interact with them and to help them eliminate isolation, and that the family is a part of the job not only the client. So effective communication is highly significant to make things run smoothly. – less
