Pros: nice job with a cool setup
Cons: very much revolves around appearance
cool job but very busy. you'll become friends with your employees which is pretty cool, and you will become close to perfection at folding clothes.

Pros: personal connections
Cons: low pay
Being a Companion is very fulfilling. I get to help seniors in their daily routines while it allows them to remain in their home. I am able to connect with clients on a personal level.

Rewarding Emotionally and Financially
Companion (Former Employee), St Petersburg FLJuly 3, 2014
Pros: great pay; rewarding emotionally
Cons: expensive for clients making them rare
Caring for someone who is in need of help is the easiest part of this job since I am a caring person, especially to the elderly and children.
It can be boring if the person you're taking care of is elderly and tends to rest most of the day, but interesting if they are willing to tell you of their past. I love to make them happy with simple surprises – more... and know that my being there for them is a comfort. The hours can be right for someone who prefers to work part time; but, if you prefer full time, positions can be rare as it is costly for the client. One must be careful in becoming too close to the client due to their age or them expecting you to offer your off time to them. There are lines that cannot be crossed where feelings are concerned. I enjoyed the work, but when my client no longer required my services, the clients were few and I allowed myself to be put on the Inactive List of Companions as I had found a job with more reliable shifts. – less

Visiting Angels (Former Employee), Sanford, FLMay 28, 2014
I became a companion when I moved to Florida because my certification as a medical assistant expired while I was in Minnesota. I remained a companion to one patient on an almost full time basis because her family main caregiver expired and this left her with no one to care for her. I stayed the last years with her for continuity for her. I have regained – more... my registration with AMT since coming here. She has passed away and I am now looking for a new position as a medical assistant. – less

Independent workplace that helps others
Homemaker (Current Employee), Waterbury, CTMay 21, 2014
A typical day at work would be filled with three clients, one in the morning, afternoon and night time. I would typically clean the client's house top to bottom, go grocery shopping, help them with projects, and prepare meals. I was able to learn so much about different cultures, recipes and ways of life from visiting different people. The management – more... of this company was very organized and they made sure the clients were always happy. The most difficult part of this job was making sure I was doing tasks the way the client wants them done, but the most enjoyable part was also that too. Once I had the clients wishes down to a 't', we got along grandly! – less
