Comunilife, Inc., one of NYC’s best-respected community-based health and housing service providers, seeks an experienced human resource leader to serve as Director. Qualified individuals will possess significant working knowledge of HR and the health and human service industry and a successful track record of developing effective relationships with program management and senior level leadership. []

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruitment and Selection – direct and manage the recruitment and selection process; train line managers in interviewing and assessment procedures
  • Human Resources Policy – develop, implement and monitor employment policies and practices across the agency, including training programs to educate and promote awareness of regulatory compliance
  • Leadership – as a member of senior management, provide oversight and guidance across agency
  • Reporting - produce reports on key metrics, including salary and benefits, absenteeism and turnover

Overview of Job Requirements:

  • Guide and manage the overall provision of Human Resource services, policies, programs for the entire company
  • Overall workforce management strategy including planning; recruiting; hiring; training and development; performance management and improvement; employee relations; succession planning
  • Organization development, change management initiatives and agency-wide culture
  • Oversee employment law compliance and compliance to regulatory concerns
  • Oversee employee safety, welfare, wellness and health
  • Manage external employment agencies, recruiters and temporary staffing agencies
  • Analyze the effectiveness of all human resource efforts


  • 7-10 years of progressively more responsible positions in human resources, in a health and human services environment
  • Expertise developing, supervising and managing a professional staff


  • Masters Degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field required
  • J.D. a plus

Required Skills, Knowledge and Characteristics:

  • Strong effective communicator in writing, oral and interpersonal communications
  • Highly developed, demonstrated teamwork skills
  • High degree of confidentiality and superior common sense
  • Expertise in employment law, employee relations and communication
  • Demonstrated ability to increase effectiveness and continuously improve methods, approaches and departmental contributions
  • Ability to build rapport and strong working relationships, providing useful and strategic human resources advice to the senior management team
  • Familiarity and skill with the tools of human resources including HRIS, Microsoft Office suite of products, file management, benefits administration and recruiting applicant tracking systems
  • Experience in recruiting for multiple operational locations
  • Proficiency in policy development, documentation and procedure implementation
