Conair has a place in many bathrooms and kitchens. The company operates through several divisions, including personal care and hair goods. Its personal care products consist of grooming and health and wellness appliances, made under brands Interplak, Travel Smart, and Allegro. Conair's hair goods division makes brushes, mirrors, and Scünci hair accessories. A professional products arm offers BaBylssPRO dryers and ConairPRO pet grooming aids. Conair also makes Cuisinart and Waring kitchen tools and sells its products through the likes of Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Wal-Mart in the US and online overseas. The global appliance maker has offices in Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Europe, and other countries.
Conair is a leading seller of hair accessories at food, drug, and discount retail chains. To secure a top shelf position, Conair has added brand names, through acquisitions and licensing deals, to its portfolio. In mid-2010 it signed an agreement with Kao USA to create a line of hair tools and appliances under the John Frieda brand name. Launched in 2011, Conair designs, makes, and markets the hair dryers, straighteners, and styling tools. Since acquiring the Scünci hair accessories business, Conair has expanded the brand into hair appliances and moved to export it to Australia, the UK, and other markets. In 2007 Conair acquired Connecticut's Franzus Company to extend its reach into travel accessories (such as adapters/converters), appliances and other items, as well as further its business in Europe, where Conair sells BaByliss hair care appliances.
Conair's Allegro Manufacturing division (acquired in 2007) is a leading maker of cosmetic and travel organizer bags. It has since broadened its product line to include diaper bags, electronics cases, craft storage, travel carts, and pet accessories. The purchase gave Conair a foothold in major cities where Allegro trades -- such as London, Paris, Mexico City, Toronto, and Sydney -- and ownership of Allegro's manufacturing plants in China and the Philippines. Conair also makes professional pet grooming tools (clippers, trimmers, brushes, and blades) under the CanineFX, Equine FX, and Yellow Dog brands.
Founded in 1959, the Connecticut-based company manufactures its appliances in Costa Rica. Its Continental Conair operation is based in Hong Kong and conducts product research and quality control, and oversees the manufacturing and distribution of private-label appliances for major retailers. – less
