When their tiny tykes needs some TLC, Nutmeg Staters turn to Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC). CCMC's centerpiece is its children's hospital that cares for children from babyhood to adulthood with a variety of services including surgery, behavioral care, and emergency medicine. The critical care department houses a Level I Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) that receives referral patients from more than 30 hospitals throughout the region. The center also conducts clinical research and provides pediatric training to health professionals. CCMC is home to more than 10 outpatient facilities throughout Connecticut and a 120-student school for children with physical and behavioral challenges.
Additionally, CCMC operates the Faculty Practice Plan, an integrated, full-service multi-specialty pediatric practice providing care to children and their families. The practice employs about 170 physicians and mid-level practitioners.
CCMC is the only academic medical center dedicated exclusively to pediatric care in western New England, and is home to the University of Connecticut's Department of Pediatrics and their Division of Pediatric Surgery. Along with conducting clinical research and providing pediatric training, the department offers several two-year fellowships in pediatric subspecialties and a three-year fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine.
CCMC was founded in 1996 and is led by former insurance executive, CEO Martin Gavin. – less
