About ConServe
We are aggressively promoting energy efficiency and conservation.
And we are making it easier for Nova Scotians to adapt to a world where the price of energy remains volatile.
With today's announcement, Premier MacDonald is helping Nova Scotians build an energy efficient future, and for that he deserves our congratulations.
Conserve Nova Scotia, – more... under the direction of Heather Foley Melvin, will work with a wide range of groups to develop the best and most efficient energy conservation programs and policies in the country.
It will have the support of a Minister's Advisory Council beginning January 1.
To help us focus our efforts in this field, Conserve Nova Scotia is going to take over existing programs under the Smart Energy Choices banner, including the Energuide for Houses and our rebates for wood stoves and solar power.
And today, it gives me great pleasure to announce the first NEW program to be launched by Conserve Nova Scotia. It is one that will be of interest to the many Nova Scotians who heat their homes with oil fired appliances.
This program will provide rebates for Nova Scotians who buy energy efficient furnaces, boilers and indirect water heaters.
Under this program, government is providing rebates of up to $500 dollars, giving immediate benefits to Nova Scotians.
And, beginning tomorrow, our agreement with the Canadian Oil Heat Association means manufacturers and retailers may provide up to an additional $250 rebate for consumers.
The combined rebates mean that Nova Scotians could receive up to $750 dollars for their investment in high-performance heating systems.
And just as importantly, Nova Scotians will achieve longer term savings because their heating bills will drop.
And there are more long-term benefits. As these heating systems increase in number, we will help future generations by reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
This project will resonate with many in our province. About 60 per cent of Nova Scotians heat with oil, so this program has the potential to reach a wide audience.
Government is providing the financial resources - an estimated $1.1 million dollars - to make this program a reality. And our partner in this program, the Canadian Oil Heat Association, is providing their resources on-the-ground.
We will begin an aggressive marketing campaign to let Nova Scotians know about this program. This campaign -- called Retire Your Furnace -- will reach out to Nova Scotians through advertising and through Oil Heat Association members.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is a program that will help Nova Scotians better insulate themselves against rising energy costs.
And it is a program that will help our environment.
I'm pleased to say that Scott Andison, President and CEO of the Canadian Oil Heat Association joins us this morning.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are moving forward in our efforts to build a stronger energy efficient future for Nova Scotians.
The creation of Conserve Nova Scotia is an important step in that direction. – less – More from ZoomInfo »
