Context, the Journal of Health Students Taking Action Together is the nation's first student-run, online, peer-reviewed journal that highlights the exceptional work of health students in the community and recognizes insightful, well-designed evaluations of student-initiated programs. United States and Canada who are working to improve the health of our communities from a variety of perspectives including: policy research, program evaluation, community partnership, and patient empowerment.
Why is Context Important? Across the United States and Canada, students have initiated community service projects, advocated for their patients, clients and/or community partners, and implemented innovative programs that address their needs holistically. To maximize students' contributions and expand the number of students involved, however, students need to reflect on our service, communicate the contribution of community experiences to our professional careers, and formulate best practices. Context fills this gap and, in doing so:
Enhances the intellectual environment of the student volunteer community
Creates space in the literature for students to reflect on their experiences in communities
Increases the sharing of knowledge across geographic and professional boundaries
