About CooperVision

CooperVision wants you to be able to clearly see the benefits of its products. CooperVision (CVI) is a leading manufacturer of contact lenses, offering a wide range of lenses that address myriad vision problems and are offered in different replacement schedules (including daily, weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly). CVI specializes in lenses for astigmatism, – more... presbyopia, and ocular dryness. CooperVision has distribution and manufacturing facilities in about 12 countries. The firm is part of The Cooper Companies, which operates through CooperVision and CooperSurgical (diagnostic products and surgical instruments for the women's health care market).

The company is one of the largest contact lens manufacturers in the world. It has been shifting its production to include more lenses made of silicone hydrogel, as market trends in recent years indicate that consumer prefer the material. (Silicone hydrogel supplies more oxygen to the cornea, which helps to prevent damage to the eye.) In 2009 CVI introduced the Biofinity and Avaira brands of silicone dydrogel spherical contact lenses in the US, Europe, and Asia/Pacific region. The company also makes silicone hydrogel toric lenses, which are used to treat patients with astigmatism, under the Biofinity brand in the US. CVI is a leading provider of toric lenses, and it is looking to this line of contacts for growth.

CVI's toric lens net sales grew 13 percent in 2010, which represented 31 percent of the company's soft lens net sales compared to the previous year. Its silicone hydrogel spherical toric and multifocal lens products increased by 108 percent in 2010 compared to 2009 and accounted for 24 percent of CVI's soft lens net sales vs. 12 percent in 2009.

CVI manufactures contact lenses primarily in its facilities in Puerto Rico and the UK. The company also distributes contact lenses through its locations in Rochester, New York, Belgium, and the UK. CooperVision sells contact lenses in Asia/Pacific, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and the US through its sales force and distributors in other specific regions of the world. Internationally, CVI's net sales increased 7% in 2010 vs. 2009. – less
