Contractor for BGE (Current Employee), Baltimore, MDJune 4, 2014
Pros: take lunch when i want and just working by myself.
Cons: bad weather will not allow you to install meters outside and will cut into pay.
Typical day, depending on weather, I try to install 30 -35 meters. Hardest part of the job is dealing with outside animals while trying to get into establishment to install meter. Most enjoyable part is working outside without any interuptions for the most part.

Administrative Assistant (Former Employee), Dubuque, IANovember 15, 2013
Pros: management
Cons: temporary position
I worked for Corix Utilities as a temporary employee while they were doing a project in the Dubuque, IA, area. I really enjoyed the people I worked with and the daily duties. I just wish it would have resulted in something permanent.

Did what we could with what we had, and then some.
Planner (Former Employee), Garbage Grove, CANovember 8, 2013
Pros: very informal and challenging. enjoyed most of my coworkers.
Cons: highly overworked, resources provided were poor
Planners worked hard, in fact we were often referred to as "miracle workers". The tools (MBLink especially) were not powerful enough or flexible enough for the project (5.4 million SCE meters). For much of the project we could only use MBLink, which couldn't provide the data that we needed to efficiently assign work to the Techs. We finally started – more... to manipulate the data outside MBLink and then map it using MapInfo Pro to work around MBLink. Working at Corix was fun, and challenging.
Unfortunately we didn't win the bid on a huge project that would have kept us all employed for a lot longer, so once the SCE project was complete, we were out. – less

Productive and a wonderful laid back place to work
OFFICE MANAGER (Former Employee), Peoria, ILOctober 25, 2013
Pros: working at my own pace
Cons: project layoff
I would go into work and set my schedule for the day. I had a list of responsibilities that had to be completed weekly. I would work at my own pace and achieve what needed to be done. I assisted with management, which could have been the hardest or easiest part of my day. Amazing co-workers!

Fast speed installations
Water Meter Technician (Former Employee), Fort Collins, COOctober 20, 2013
Pros: freedom, company car, all materials provided, help when you needed it.
Cons: difficult neighborhoods, cold in winter, very hard work.
A typical day was after you had gained your route you would get into your company vehicle and start installing on houses. Some neighborhoods you would get many done fast and some (old brick houses) it would take a little longer. I learned to adapt on this job. One house may be quite easy and the other is behind a thorn bush that you have to do some – more... drilling into the brick or metal siding. Management was great. They were your support line. If you had a question on what is the best way to do something or you simply forgot something, they were their to help you. Co-workers were not able to help you that much, unless you need a couple more screws, simple because they had their own route that they had to complete also. The hardest part of the job for me was the endurance it took. So had to lug around a 40 to 50 pound bag and accessories all day and after a while my back started to take a toll. The most enjoyable part of the job was to know you were in control. You didn't have your bosses hoovering behind your back. You got your route and you went out. – less

Very hard worker
Thermostat installer/Electric installer (Former Employee), Edmond, OKJuly 15, 2013
Pros: i'm a hard worker, i am punctual, always there and always on time
A typical day at work I work hard all day. Some employees don't like that I work so hard every day. Knowing I have a job would be the most enjoyable. And once I know a job I get faster unless my boss wants me to slow down. I learned how to install thermostats. I learned how to use handheld computers for meter reading, and a laptop computer. Also I learned – more... how to install switches for the HVAC unit. – less

Great job if you like to work independently and in an ever changing environment, great pay, and good benefits helps
Meter Technician (Current Employee), all over Washington stateJuly 10, 2013
Pros: take home company vehicle, good benefits, great pay, all tools and equipment provided
Cons: not a stable work environment (could get laid off at any time)
You get paid from the time you leave your house, to the time you get home, you have a company vehicle, all maintenance and gas is paid for by the company, You have all your tools, laptop and equipment provided by the company. I enjoy the solitude, but you are also interacting with the end user (customer), since you are in their yard. You work at your – more... own pace ensuring accuracy. I love working outside and in the environment. I love that I am home in time to pick up my child from school and that my job doesn't infringe on my personal life. – less

Full of false promises
Meter Reader (Current Employee), Lawrenceville, GAJune 20, 2013
Pros: none come to mind
Cons: horrible company to work in the field for.
Upon being hired I was told that we would be compensated for skip days this however did not hold true. We were in no way compensated for any skip days at all nor where we brought in to work around the shop which I was informed would be another option. Management was severely lacking in literacy when your supervisor can not pronounce simple words learned – more... in grade school while reading an important memo from the main office something is terribly wrong. Promotions where earned by who gave out the best sports tickets, and whomever could keep that to themselves. In short this company was full of unfulfilled promises, and politics on a level in which I have never seen. – less

Great place to work
Office Manager (Current Employee), Madison, WIApril 26, 2013
Pros: great work environment and friendly co workers, healthcare
Cons: not a permanent position
On a daily basis I routed work for all the installers based on appointments that had been scheduled through the call center. With Corix Utilites I learned a lot about the logistics of routing and how and why it is important to the daily workings. Management has always been helpful as well as all the co workers. The hardest part of the job was routing – more... heavy appointment days and the most enjoyable part of the job was coming to work on a daily basis. – less
