Daily Duties at Pendleton Correctional Facilties
Registered Nurse (Current Employee), Pendleton, INDecember 20, 2014
Pros: direct patient care
Cons: ability to maintain consistency between medical and custody
At the beginning of my work day I am in charge of gathering Health Care Requests Forms the offenders fill out requesting medical treatment. I triage the forms and send them to the appropriate departments. I then obtain the Health care forms that are specific to my area and schedule the nursing triage for day, evening, and night shift. During this process, – more... I am also juggling the the Urgent care schedule and any emergent/urgent situations that walk in. My management is always available to work the floor when assistance is needed. My co-workers are also very team-oriented and ready to step in and assist with any emergent situations. The hardest part of my job would be the constant need to be aware of my surroundings while focusing on my nursing assessment relating to being in a maximum security prison. The most enjoyable part of my job is the constant patient care and ability to incorporate my holistic nursing knowledge in every situation. – less

My perspective of Corizon
Staff RN (Current Employee), Philadelphia, PANovember 12, 2014
Pros: transfer all over the country, as long as there is inmates and the staff perform their duties correctly, you have a guarantee job
Cons: there is really no cons
I have a professional respect for Corizon. Very fortunate to work for a company that understands family needs.
Corizon offers internal growth. Because the company serves so many correctional facilities all over the country, this allows transfer to other states and ability to build good experience and lifelong relationship

RUN, RUN VERY FAST AND VERY FAR!!!!
RN (Current Employee), PittsburghSeptember 19, 2014
Pros: nothing...its a job
Cons: everything no ft only pt positions
Corizon is a HORRIBLE company to work for! Anytime someone from management talks , they LIE. They do not like to give you FT work I was asked if I was interested in a FT opening I was so I applied. I was told I was the only applicant so I would be getting the position. The new schedule came out and on it for I was listed as FT 1.0. I was very happy – more... and thankful. I wrote a letter to administration telling them ty, only to get an email telling me I was NOT FT and was only filling in while interviews were being conducted!!! Ok I figured we were going through the motions, I asked 2 weeks later if I was going to be interviewed only to get a reply, "I haven't heard anything." Now the next months schedule is out and I am listed as PT . In the meantime 2 more full time employees have left and they are bringing in Agency people to work the open hours!!! Meanwhile there are myself and others who want full time and are trained. Don't come to this ignorant uncaring company. Oh I forgot to mention they have people from corporate staying in our city at a fancy hotel for the last year they pay all their expenses but won't give the backbone of the company a fulltime job because and I quote " we don't hire ft because of benefits being expensive" They are crazy! They have flown people in and paid to relocate them but they won't give me or my co workers a fulltime position and they wonder why people call off and have a bad attitude!!!! Please save yourself the aggravation! Apply somewhere else!! Please!!! RUN – less

No two work days are the same.
Licensed Practical Nurse (Current Employee), State Farm, VASeptember 17, 2014
A typical work day consists of getting report on the patients, administering medications, providing treatments and performing wound care. Everyday is a learning experience and the medical staff is great with teamwork. The hardest part of the job is watching someone expire, the best part of the job is when the guys get well and leave.

Nurse (Former Employee), GaAugust 9, 2014
Pros: great co-workers
Cons: pay, security, nonmedical hsa, clocking in/out for lunch
Their new computer system is the worst. It creates orders on its own. The name changes to other staff members in the middle of your work. And it will hold up in court, even if you report it, it can't be undone. Corporate refused to believe that their system sucks even with multiple examples it had to be the staffs fault. The HSA is not medical and doesn't – more... understand how medical works, yet the HSA runs the show. Even over the DON. The inmates are sue happy and its unfortunate that they get more respect then the staff. Security is severly understaffed and that is scary. – less

Dont do it...
RN (Current Employee), Indianapolis, INAugust 5, 2014
I have been here almost two years, I don't see room for advancement, and the benefits and pay sucks. Don't expect a good insurance plan from them without spending your whole check, because this company is with the Aon Exchange Group. Oh and if you want to go back to school this is not the company to help pay for school. 2500 a year, and if you get any – more... write that is no longer available for you. I applied for the reimbursement and got a write the following day for attendance that she back track from 2013, and its 2014. Lol A mess. – less

Enjoyed my job, however it is a very unorganized place to work
LPN (Former Employee), Bartow, FLJuly 11, 2014
A typical day at work is very busy from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave my housing unit held over 350 inmates/patients on a day to day basis.
I learned no matter who your patients are you should always be professional and listen to your patients concerns and provide feed back to the patient.
Management is very unorganized and unethical – more... at times.
My co-workers were the best part of this job great teamwork.
The hardest part of the job is the management.
At the end of my shift it felt very rewarding with the thought of hoping I made a difference in someone's life. – less

Pros: everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand.
Let me start by saying I love my job. I have learned that team work is very important when working in a healthcare setting. My co-workers are always there to lend a helping hand if needed. My hours are flexible and my supervisor always shows appreciation for all the employees that work for the company.

Credentialing Coordinator
Senior Credentialing Coordinator (Current Employee), Brentwood, TNJune 11, 2014
Pros: having the site management help you out to get the credentials and reach out to the providers
Cons: constantly have to keep on the sites, and providers to send me the updated credentials even though they know they have been expired
Working at Corizon has taught me to take the initiative to do things on your own. I have bulid a working relationship with the employees. Out of the seven years that I have been working here I've learned that you have to take control for yourself because here you won't find out anything unless you ask questions.

CERTIFIED MEDICATION AIDE (Former Employee), annapolisJune 3, 2014
Pros: co-workers, pay
Cons: inexperienced management, unrealistic expectations, condescending management styles
This job started out ok. As management changed to new and inexperienced people that environment went downhill. High turnover, the quality of new hires was sketchy. Workplace began to become highly stressful and depressing.

Therapeutic Recreation Therapist (Former Employee), Nashville, TNMay 23, 2014
Pros: pay
Cons: no supplies, upper management
I worked for Corizon as a Therapeutic Recreation Therapist from June 2012-August 2013. Let me start off by saying Corizon pays really really well. I'll say that again they pay really really well. However as a Recreation Therapist I needed supplies to do my job. For over a year I was told that supplies were on there way. I never receiced anything except – more... for a few packs of construction paper and a box of colored pencils. So it was really hard to have therapeutic sessions with the inmates when you have no supplies to do anything with. Upper management seemed to change monthly. It seems like the company gets people in the door with the good salary but then offers no support so people find jobs elsewhere. Also it took about 3 months to get my direct depost set up. Like I said very unorganized. – less

Corrections Facility Healthcare
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (Former Employee), Montgomery, ALMay 6, 2014
Pros: room for movement in the company
Cons: management
Providing healthcare services to inmates in a State Correctional Facility. It was a fast pace environment that required you to be very attentive to your work and your surroundings. Although the management was not up to par the job itself and the other co-workers was a very fun job and at times had its rewards.
