Great Job and Benefits, Bad Hours
Finishing Operator (Current Employee), Painted Post, NY –
Pros: money, benefits
Cons: hours
This is a great job, its not difficult, the money is good and so are the benefits. However, most of the union workers work a seven day swing shift which allows so time for a family or life outside of work.

Don't value the individual like they say they do.
Materials Processes Technician III (Former Employee), Sullivan Park (ETD), NY. –
Pros: work schedule flexibility, peers
Cons: many
I was a Technician at Corning for 12 yrs. and was fired for for insubordination after trying to bargain for a title change. I was demanded to peform the job duties of a Scientist in addition to what were my current responsibilities. They denied unemployment benefits just because they could. (funny both jobs are currently posted as openings).

Unless – more...  you have a PhD, you or anything you do for the company will not be valued. In fact the leadership will string you along by telling you that you're doing a great job...They'll tell you that you just need to improve a little in one area, and once you do it will be another area. You'll be given additional responsibilities and they'll say it's an opportunity for for you to demonstrate your skills; it's not.

Corporate greed has run awry in this company; if you don't believe it look at the executive salaries..

Cornings performance review process is a fake..If your peers rate you well, your manager rates you low, or they re-invent the way the process is supposed to work.

Overall poor experience working for Corning. – less

Wilmington Company having employee retention problems
process technician (Former Employee), Wilmington, NC –
Pros: nice pay, nice hours
Cons: termination practices, possibly office politics
My husband was let go, 5 days shy of being their 6 months. He wasnt given a good reason, except he wasnt available enough. He had just worked 4 days, for various employees needing off. They didnt fire him to his face either. They waited until he got off work, one morning to call him and tell him, he was fired. 2 months later, he found out that nearly – more...  every single person hired, around the same time was fired too. My husbands immediate supervisor was unaware, he was going to be fired. He was just notified that my husband would not be returning. My husband has ALWAYS had an exemplary performance record. – less

sara – March 14, 2012

Hi, I have recently applied for an internship position with Corning. I was wondering how can I get a hold of the recruiting team there. I believe I am really qualified for the job because of my background in fluid dynamics. Sara

Assistant Controller (Former Employee), Danville –
Pros: pay & benefits
Cons: locations
Corning is a great place to learn how to be a good supervisor/manager. It is also supportive of professional development. The 360 review process is the best objective review process I've experienced

Best place I've worked for to date.
Optics Technician III (Former Employee), Sullivan Park, NY & Fountain Valley, CA –
Pros: a company that cares about its employees, fosters an environment for innovation and growth.
Cons: layoffs when times are slow.
I was laid off back in 2003 and to this day wish I could work for Corning again.

Assuming the culture is the same, I had great bosses who encouraged innovation and personal growth. The company took great care of me from day 1 up until the end of their generous severance package after the Fountain Vally facility closed.

I've worked for a small, private – more...  company and another Fortune 500 company since being laid off from Corning and have never imagined myself retiring from either one like I did when I was at Corning. – less
