Difficult company to work for

Continually changing metrics, inconsistent managerial support / direction / feedback make this a very high stress job. Glorified call center, nothing more. Core function of position is made far harder than it should be.

The pay and benefits are fantastic for an entry level position straight out of college but the environment sucks. The work is extremely repetitive and you're calling people that really don't want to talk to you. The branding is stupid and management is obsessed with metrics. Waste of time like you're spinning on a wheel. It's a good placeholder job if you know you'll be off to something else.

Great company; poor upper management. The leaders don't listen to the clients nor their workers. Idealism is shoved down the staff's throat to provide information via one channel only; the phone. The work environment has very low morale. The pay sustains the workforce; that is it. There is plenty of upside to the company if upper management would LISTEN. The company is so bent on providing information that it sacrifices good working talent.

Paid lunches, good compensation, good benefits.
Cons
Micro-management, unrealistic expectations.

Great Place to work for after college

This is a company that is evergrowing, my team was personally the most helpful and cohesive team, I was a product analyst. I learned a lot by working on the product team. I had to learn the product inside and out from the back end of actually coding to the client service side of training and demos and dealing with any client requests and isseus.

Upper management has some flaws and sometimes there were long hours due to the cycle. The hardest part were last minute projects provided you by senior management with somewhat of an unreasonable timeline.

Cons
hard work, it's not just a job so if you're not willing to work hard and underatand the real estate culture

Get in, do what you need to do, get out. Very high turn over, working in a youthful atmosphere. Many opportunities to move around in the company. Not very supportive of getting new employees well acclimated to the company/culture/procedures.

Simplistic Metrics and Stressful Work Environment

CoStar uses extremely simplistic metrics in an attempt to rank its 300 or so research associates. There are huge "leader boards" on every wall of the building showing how many calls ("interviews") you average each day throughout the month. You spend your entire day dialing and attempting to reach brokers with listings, and if they answer you try your hardest to keep them on the phone for at least 90 seconds in order for your call to count.

There are also constant "research" and data entry projects, which would be a nice break from listening to phones ringing all day, except every minute you spend on one of these projects takes time away from dialing, and your numbers drop very publicly.

Lower management is always in fits of stress and you'll come in to work seeing that your manager sent you emails in the middle of the night. If you move up in the company, the work life balance goes away, meaning there's no meaningful advancement available if you have a family or significant other or even a dog.

Pays well for an entry-level job.
Cons
Simplistic metrics, culture of competition, the feeling that your work product is rushed and incomplete

CoStar had a lot of potential but after hiring me they changed my work hours, removed my ability to make overtime, did not offer adequate training or introduction to their processes, delayed their conversion to an ERP for more than a year and did not allow for any work-from-home options. Due to these factors, overall it turned out not to be a good fit for me.

CoStar group is a great company for new graduates that do not know if they are truly interested in real estate. I feel that this job is an ok stepping stone while you wait to figure out what you want to do. Its ok not great.

Great way to get a foothold in Commercial Real Estate

This job provides you the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the data/research side of commercial real estate. The job also allows you to grow in your ability to interact with other professions both internally and externally.

The research role at CoStar is a highly competitive and metric based role. Your pay is not affected by "poor" or "great" performance, however your metrics are displayed for all to see and this creates this peer motivation to improve and be better. If you do not thrive well in a metric based environment this may not be the job for you.

The most enjoyable part of the job is building relationships with the brokers you are working with, unfortunately portfolio changes can make this difficult at times.

A good place to go for a first job. Company culture is a little to laid back. Overall great place to get things started, but not so great to stay if you're looking for a challenge.
