Cotton Incorporated battles both boll weevils and synthetic fibers. The organization bolsters the demand and profitability of the US cotton industry through its research and marketing efforts. To the public, Cotton Incorporated is known for its white-on-brown "Seal of Cotton" logo and its advertising slogan, "The fabric of our lives." Founded in 1970, Cotton Incorporated is funded by US growers of upland cotton, cotton importers, and cotton-product makers. Its board consists of representatives from each cotton-growing state -- all of whom are cotton producers -- and is overseen by the US Department of Agriculture.
In addition to marketing efforts, the organization does seed breeding and agricultural, fiber, and textile research; it offers farm-management and supply-chain planning services; advice regarding textile mills, fiber processing, cotton quality management assistance; and product trend analyses. It works with Cotton Council International in order to help build the demand for US cotton and cotton products.
China is the world's largest miller of cotton. It is a major export customer for US cotton. In 2009 Cotton Incorporated began an outreach program for Chinese consumers called 2009 Cotton -- Beyond Your Imagination. The program was designed to familiarize the country's citizens with the attributes of US cotton products. The program involved trade shows, conventions, and conferences.
Cotton Incorporated has offices in the US, Mexico, Hong Kong, China, and Japan. – less
