Associate/Photographer (Former Employee), Syracuse, NY – May 10, 2012
Pros: free pictures at end of season
Cons: short breaks, drastic hour cuts after the holidays
I enjoyed going to work every day. I met new and interesting people and had the joy of giving them portraits of their loved ones they can cherish forever.
The hardest part of my job was dealing with difficult customers, but with a smile on your face, you can please almost anyone. Another difficulty was the changing procedures after the busy holiday – more... season and the lack of corporate understanding that sometimes you still need 3 or 4 workers in the studio at the same time so we could leave when we were scheduled to leave. – less
Advertising Assistant (Former Employee), St. Louis, MO – May 4, 2012
Pros: parking available
Cons: parking expense
Many Years, Created many friends at CPI. The most injoyable part of the job was learning, problem solving, stat of the art equipment. The hardest part of the job was layoffs and downsizing. I'd love to see this company florish again.
Seasonal Photographer/Salesperson (Former Employee), Hamilton, ON – April 20, 2012
- During the Christmas season, the studio becomes extremely busy and is filled with clients whose ages range from two weeks old to 90 years old. - Being both a photographer and a salesperson, I had to multitask and juggle both tasks as my co-workers were often busy with other clients. - After a 30-45 minute photo-session with the clients, I would digitally – more... edit the photos and then present the edited photos, allowing the clients to choose from a variety of designs, sizes, colours, etc. - What I learned from this position is that time is of the essence. Time management is absolutely essential and deadlines are extremely important (i.e. If one photo session, editing session or sales pitch is prolonged, the appointments for the remaining clients are postponed, resulting in the entire team to fall behind on the scheduled appointments) - This position has taught me to take initiative and help my co-workers when they required it most. – less
Photo Lab Technician (Former Employee), Kirkwood, MO – April 9, 2012
I enjoyed working at CPI / Fox Photo, before they were bought out by Wolf Camera. During my time there, it was always enjoyable. But once Wolf Camera took the photo labs over and started closing locations, it was only a matter of time before they started laying off employees. It was a shame, because working there was my introduction to the photo lab – more... business and I was very happy there. My managers were great as were my fellow employees. – less
Store Manager (Former Employee), Shelby, NC – April 5, 2012
Pros: good pay, good benefits
Cons: terribly underqualified management, poorly kept policies, bad customer/employee care
I have very little good to say about CPI so ill start there. The benefits were great and the pay was good too. For someone who doesnt mind working a lot there are many hours to be had in the management position I was in. Now for the bad! The requirements to become corporate level management must be non-existant especially social behavior skills. Approaching – more... any semi-challenging situation left corporate management so confused that all they could do was respond with anger and childish attitudes. How the company handled its own policies was a bewilderment as well. They would promote a new policy only to change whenever they wanted no matter how bad it affected the company, customers or employees. I loved what I did in my position but I did not enjoy my time with CPI as far as the company is concerned but I will say that it taught me a lot of what not to do in many different social situations. – less
