Working at Crate and Barrel

What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at Crate and Barrel? What do you like best about working at Crate and Barrel? Are there any great perks or special treats for employees?

C&B is a wonderful company, unless you work for them. The products they offer are outstanding. They hire on for seasonal means only. If after 3 months they do not like your style, they will easily let you go. The company doesn't want to invest any insurance into their employess, so they will hire 40 people each season, and once that season is over, so is the job for many people. I enjoyed working in the call center, it's interesting to take catalog orders over the phone. Another perk is that the merchandise is available in a showroom to explain to the customer the texture, size, color, etc. If you apply for a job with them, MAKE SURE you are on time, and miss no days of work, and be prepared to work at least one weekend day.

Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Crate and Barrel? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Crate and Barrel?

What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable? How does Crate and Barrel stack up against the competition?

I have worked for this company in another location and loved it! Unfortunately, the Houston location has some management issues. It wasn't the most pleasant working environment.

It's always hard to know what to expect when going in for that interview -- and preparation can make all the difference. What is the interview process like at Crate and Barrel? Any advice on striking the right note?
