EXTREAMLY BORING
production (Former Employee), Tukwila WA – May 14, 2013
Pros: only work four days a week
Cons: monotony, dirty enviroment, 10 hour shifts
I worked here for a short period of time and could not stand it any longer. In the production area you will do the exact same thing for the 10 hours that you are there. The manage does not have a clue what is actually going on on the production floor. They walk around just to try and catch people off task. The job is producing cans for food but cleaning – more... the warehouse is the very last thing on the agenda for them and people would get in trouble for cleaning if they had five minutes of down time. This place is only for the people that have no other option and can handle the monotony of doing the exact same thing over and over all day every day. – less

If you're in need a job and don't have ANY other options.
Anonymous Laborer (Current Employee), Warrensburg, IL – January 25, 2013
Pros: good wages, benefits
Cons: overtime, mismanagement, chaos
Typical Day at Work
The pace in the factory is a constant state of flux. The pace goes from steady to panic to frantic to chaotic within an hour. Putting in good terms... you are constantly forced to change your focus and objectives at a moments notice.
Management
Management expects employees to keep up with the pace while trying to promote safe work – more... habits while instantly suspending anyone being reckless. Supervision is reasonable but constantly pressured to make as much product as possible even if comes at a cost to quality.
What I can learn?
There is plenty of skills to be learned that will help in future employment. For example, management encourages employees to be involved in the creation and fine tuning of Standard Operating Procedure as well as various problem solving programs. However, these activities are mostly mandatory and require overtime.
Co-workers
Professionally, most care about 2 things- 1. To do the job with the least amount of effort. 2. To make sure to pass the blame to another coworker if there is a mistake. The few good employees are constantly taken advantage of and constantly walked over.
Personally, all of the co-workers are great people who will come together if a coworker is in need of help (outside the plant).
Thats where a person must be prepared to be good terms one day and worst enemies the next. On the good side, grudges never last very long.
Hardest Part
OVERTIME!!!!!!!!! If you have a life, you will have to be prepared to sacrifice precious time with your family in order to keep your job and put food on the table. Be prepared to work 60+ hours a week for months at a time. The reasons for the overtime varies from production demands to co-workers not being able to make it to work.
The Best Part
Has some of the best benefits I have seen since i started working. Health/Vision/Dental are all competitive. As well as the wages starting at over $12 an hour to $22 for the top classification (under management).

In Closing, people thinking of getting a job at Crown in Decatur, has to weigh the good and the bad as seen in the pros and cons. I have tried to "sugarcoat" the bad points. So I will give you 4 things to be prepared for if you want to be hired and keep your job.

1. You will work overtime/Saturday's and lots of it depending on position.
2. You will be under constant pressure to create product to meet the demands of customers.
3 Management will constantly change the rules of practice frequently and without notice.
4. You will be charged with cleaning up the messes that the previous shift left you while being chastised about your own practices. – less

Love/Hate type of place , too much overtime
Mechanic (Former Employee), Warrensburg il – December 27, 2012
Pros: good pay/benefits
Cons: too much overtime, constant changing rules, mismanaged/ very week union
Could be a good place to work if not for constant feeling of walking on eggshells fearing a write up or getting fired being a minute or 2 late from lunch/break, or running bad product from machines that are 60+ years old and dont get half the maintanace they need, and if they do get it its because you have to put in 60 hours a week to help get it done, – more... not to mention the 60 hours you work all summer long anyway because of people getting fired and they dont replace them for a year or so.dont make plans for family time soon as you do youll be cancelling for even more overtime almost every saturday. Very high turn around rate for such a small company, so dont plan on retiring from there. There are some good people there to work with minus the few tattletells/brown nosers that secretly let upper management know when your doing something wrong. Does pay well and have good benefits however most of the time the stress and loss of family time isnt worth it. – less

A good introduction to the business world
Office Intern (Former Employee), Αθήνα, GRI – April 11, 2012
Pros: good pay, challenging
Cons: it was only an internship
As an intern my responsibilities were limited. Nevertheless, I learned a lot about how the headquarters of company operates, how to manage my time well while working on multiple projects, and how to interact with my fellow coworkers in a friendly, but professional manner.
