Was a fun place to work because of the people
Machine operator / Pan Carb Operator (Current Employee) –  Piedmont, SCDecember 6, 2016
What's a great place to work because of the pay the benefits the overtime the people that you work with were great people. People that you work with with teach you everything about the job they were not jealous they were just great people to work with and to get along with. There are opportunities to advance in the company.
Pros
Was the pay and the benefits and the opportunity to know everything about the job
Cons
Management was not all that great and they were not friendly

Manager (Former Employee) –  Woodland Park, NJJuly 19, 2016
A good company to avoid. Will be overrun by new owner. Not much promotion opportunity, people protecting themselves first, and predatory to its own people.
Pros
Some bright individuals in interesting manufacturing
Cons
Not concerned with integrating new ideas or change

Best Safety Culture, Great People
Site Technical Engineer/Project Manager (Current Employee) –  Mount Pleasant, TNApril 27, 2016
Best work atmosphere I have experienced from a safety and management standpoint. Fast Paced but a high level of red tape. Since the Solvay buyout, the new company structure is extremely top heavy with literally thousands of corporate managers/directors.
Pros
Great people and work environment

Cytec recently sold to Solvay
Global IT Quality Assurance Manager (Current Employee) –  Woodland Park, NJJanuary 5, 2016
Cytec was sold to Solvay in December 2015. Cytec was a solid company to work for. It is too early to evaluate Solvay as the new owner.

Help desk has its burdens, but this place made it feel real like anything was possible.
Very short lived. Would have been permanent if it wasn't for the job shift to foreign country.

Global Technical Services Re-Site Chemist (Current Employee) –  Anaheim, CAJuly 6, 2015
This company has a lot to offer anyone who joins; however, be wary - it is very easy to plateau if one is not motivated. The culture can be very friendly as well.

Unproductive, Unrewarding, High Stress - Terrible Employer
Strategic Sourcing Buyer (Former Employee) –  Piedmont, SCMay 21, 2014
The company has transitioned from nearly $5B Company to a $1.8B Company within the last three (3) years. It shed the Specialty Chemicals division with was consistently profitable for investment into Automotive and greater stake in Aerospace. The divestiture enabled the company to further erode human assets and pile additional duties and responsibilities on an already skinny infrastructure.

In 2012 a significant portion of professional services was outsourced to the shared services group in Riga, Latvia. The group in Latvia has proven to be quite nimble and eager to assist however the transition pains continue to persist whether it is with AP and paying vendors or in dealing with benefits to communication and confirmation of purchase orders.

Supply Chain organization is a hodgepodge of disconnect and misdirection. Executive leadership has committed $13M to ICG/Procurian/Accenture for procurement and has recognized very little in terms of ROI. That blundered has hastened additional trimming of staffing within Supply Chain. Couple this significantly poor investment with depreciation of Capital Projects being done in 2014 and you have an off balanced P&L and a leadership organization that simply knows how to cut head count and add workload to an already over worked and constrained organization.

Hands down this was the worst organization that I have been employed by in my 20 years of professional career. In between the 60 to 80 hour weeks and the lack of growth opportunity and a void of accountability by leadership, it was a welcome relief to finally be away from
  more... CYTEC.

The company has also committed to transition to SAP within the year and have already had to drop back from that preposterous time-line half-dozen times. The implementation of SAP will be a very painful one for this Company as they have no idea how to implement and plan projects with synergies across sites.

Best recommendation, especially for the Cytec Carbon Fiber plant in Piedmont, utilize the time to build your experience and apply to TOREY when they complete the expansion of their Carbon Fiber facility in Spartanburg.

Cytec Industries is a union shop. Once your in the Union and your a productive employee your there for life! Co workers are a great bunch and are willing to help you learn. You have room for advancement in production and chemical operations. I was able to learn are great deal on how to mix chemical to make the required product.
