Purchasing Director (Food & Beverage)


  • Purchasing and procurement of food and beverage
  • Source new products and suppliers for our needs, in line with our high quality standards yet keeping within budget
  • Search for international suppliers and trends in the hospitality industry
  • Establish and negotiate agreements
  • Maintain and improve business relationships with established supplier to assure on-time delivery, favorable pricing, etc.
  • Supervise and develop a team of buyers, storeroom managers and product receivers
  • Organize and attend food tasting sessions for new products
  • Assist in food presentations to customers
  • Develop and streamline processes, e.g. accessibility, availability, cost and quality assurance
  • Monitor and improve food cost
  • Oversee the distribution channels of our products
  • Monitor and improve supplier performance where needed
  • Review purchase requisitions, obtain competitive quotes and plan purchase orders
  • Analyze financial data in conjunction with unit controller for optimization, including supplier rationalization, tenders, aggregation and specification alternatives
  • Ensure food safety compliance, HACCP and FDA regulations are met
  • Manage day-to-day supplier communication
  • Maintain contracts and related administrative work
  • Liaise with internal departments, e.g. executive chefs when high-end menus are created
  • Supervise the purchasing team as well as food/beverage receivers


  • University Degree
  • 3 – 5 years of work experience as the head of a purchasing departments, with emphasis on high end food and beverages
  • Excellent knowledge of food and/or beverage products
  • Perfect knowledge of Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with purchasing processing systems (eg. Navision)
  • Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
  • Valid NYC Food Protection Certificate is a plus
  • High level of quality standards
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Outgoing, hands-on mentality
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Creative, innovative approach to problems
  • Willingness to improve internal efficiencies
