I worked as a biostatistician for 8 years, and really learned a lot of statistics. The workload is diverse and you can deal with any type of project ranging from genomics to small mouse experiments to large-scale clinical trials. Statisticians routinely consult on anything from the design of research through publication of manuscripts.
The drawback – more... of this job, and what eventually made me leave, was the enormous workload. Meetings with department management to adjust project allocations led nowhere, and 50+ hours per week became expected. Advancement opportunity was very limited and I was only eligible for cost-of-living raises for the rest of my career. As one of my managers commented: "No one has to work here, and anyone who doesn't like it can just leave."
I thought that the science at DF was amazing, as were some of the clinical investigators that I worked with. The major drawbacks for me were the indifference of my superiors, lack of advancement potential, and enormous work load. – less

Friendly co-workers and nice working environment makes it great.

Being in Healthcare, you never have a dull day. There is always something that needs to be done like yesterday. Spreadsheets are a normal part of my day, but something that I never get tired of.
I have been doing medical billing for over 20 years and still love what I do. I think that is something important.

Worked in the pathology department, performing daily IHC's and other experiments on sample tumors grown in experimental mice. Grew cell line through cell culture, embedded and stained tumorous tissue.

I learned how to collaborate with other groups such as target and drug discovery, as well as various experimental techniques. I created presentations – more... which were then shown to the rest of the company to document project progress.

This is a great place to work. Management is great and there are plenty of opportunities to learn if coming in at an entry level. People are very friendly.

I enjoyed many years at DFCI . I worked with many dedicated and committed staff in all roles from administrative staff to the COO. It was stimulating and gratifying, always improving processes/ procedures and services to benefit work in clinical and research departments.

Great place to work, everyone is extremely well-educated. I enjoy my time there and would recommend it to others.

I worked as an Intravenous therapy nurse and learnt a great deal through my patients and coworkers.

Management turnover rate is Horrible. They treat the employees with no dignity nor do they ever have positive feedback; as they collect bonuses.

Dana-Farber has been my home in Boston for 10 years. The only reason I am leaving this organization is due to relocation. Were I to remain in Boston, I would remain with Dana-Farber. Not many opportunities for career development. Mission is inspiring, but after a few years it gets tiring to work for the mission only.
