There is PTO you can accrue like any normal job. The problem is, your ability to take this PTO is completely dependent on how responsible and together your manager is with scheduling. If you have a manager on top of scheduling, who is able to give you a set schedule weeks in advance, you can easily request PTO and sick days. If you have a management team who is all over the place with scheduling, these requests will never be processed, or will be overlooked.
