Davlyn Investments, Property Management has an immediate opening for an Assistant Controller to oversee our small, but very busy accounting department located in our corporate headquarters.

Job Summary: Manages the Accounting Department staff and the general accounting operations for Davlyn Investments, Property Management, and handles the corporate financial accounting for Davlyn Investments.

Staff Responsibility: 2 -Project Accountants, 1-AP Clerk and 1-PT Payroll Clerk

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Work Schedule: 8:30 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday with overtime if necessary

Compensation: Base salary and bonus program

A bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Minimum 5 - 7 years related accounting experience of which 3 years must have been in project/property accounting with a property management company

Strong personnel management skills and a minimum two years’ experience supervising an accounting department

Proficiency with Yardi Voyager property management software

Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Word, Excel and Outlook

Experience using accrual basis accounting, multiple entity partnership accounting and taxation

Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills

A professional demeanor and the proven ability to interface and work closely with all levels of employees within an organization

High level of accuracy with all work documents and reporting and a keen attention to detail

Proven track of record in gaining the trust of executive management and business associates and the highest level of integrity and ethics in all business dealings


General & Property Accounting
Manages the general accounting functions which includes general ledger, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivables, job cost accounting, lender draws and administration, bank reconciliations, cash management, cash flow projections and analysis of cash reserve.

Receives, reviews monthly financial statements and management reports per property prepared by the Project Accountants and submits to the CFO for approval prior to distribution to the division heads.

Handle the corporate financial accounting for Davlyn Investments and related managing member entities.

Assists with compiling the year-end financial information needed for the preparation of approximately 80 partnership and/or corporate tax returns with three CPA firms.

Monitors and reviews property tax and insurance payments.

Works with approximately 90 bank accounts at three different institutions which includes initiating new bank accounts, setting up and approving wire transfers for investor distributions and mortgage payments.

Ensures overall compliance with accounting policies and procedures.

Handles the property accounting of buildings in the portfolio if needed.

Property Acquisitions & Property Dispositions
Generates opening book entries, and establishes opening capital account balances upon the close of escrow on each acquisition.

Ensures the proper set up of new properties into the Yardi system prior to going live.

Human Resources
Supervises the Accounting Department staff, provides on-going performance feedback, conducts performance reviews and provides coaching, mentoring and training.

Provides support and training for Property Managers and Regional Managers in the field and answers employee’s questions regarding the accounting system.

Payroll & Benefit Administration
Oversees benefit open enrollment each year, assists with employee communications and participates in meetings with employee to explain the benefits and deadlines.

Directs the payroll administration system, reviews and approves the payroll report for each pay period, paying particular attention to overtime usage and the proper set up of new employees and close out of terminating employees.
