Pre-Print Coordinator/Forklift Operator/Operations, Daytona Beach, FL - November 8, 2016
Upon my hiring at the Daytona Beach News Journal I would have easily rated them as four or five stars. The problems and lower rating are due to what follows; First and foremost, The News Journal is a newspaper and a dying industry. That loss of business, profit, and growth has made the environment toxic and room from employee growth or expansion was eliminated (I had the same position and pay for seven years, but inherited numerous other responsibilities well beyond my job title). They offered a decent benefits package for those working full time however, the reduction of our labor force and the push to part time rather than full time labor eliminated that option for many employees and created a negative ripple effect throughout the distribution and packaging team. Middle management worked as well as they could to offer relief to these employees in the form of flexing schedules and shifts, but their hands were also tied due to the work load.
