Not For Everyone
Teacher (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCSeptember 9, 2017
Staff is basically required to get there at 7:30 and work until 5 everyday. There is a late schedule and early schedule, if you start at 8:25 your planning period is considered from 7:30-8:25. Everyone is micromanaged and there is a high turn over rate for teachers, They burn their teachers out. PD's are Friday from 3:30-5:00 pm. You are not giving many opportunities to sit down and breathe through out the day. Everyone is running around and it is very typical for a teacher to not have a lunch because of how many subjects/ lessons you are required to teach. By Thursday/ Friday everyone looks really beat down.
Children are not giving much opportunity to be free thinkers, everything is managed for the students; how to think, walk and behave during lunch, recess and the classroom. It is a punitive environment.
Pros
Supportive Management
Cons
Too many meetings and a long day

great school but stressful environment
Math Teacher (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCAugust 9, 2017
Students do well in their PARCC but the environment is very stressful for teachers. Students are required to perform well and have several opportunities to get the concepts.

Work day at DC Prep SE
Academic Intervention Fellow (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCJuly 17, 2017
An overall day at work started at 7:15am. The teachers were able to make sure that the work for the day was in place. I learned alot from some of the teachers and the administration. I felt the management part for support of the teachers should of been better. The workplace culture was set up well for the students. The hardest part of the job was when there was no support for the disruptive students. The most enjoyable part of the job was when the students were excited about learning a subject and achieving their goals.
