This job is a great starting place, you learn a lot with just being a merchandiser. There is lot of room for advancement with the company which is a good thing.

Craft & Specialty Manager (Former Employee) –  Mechanicville, NYFebruary 19, 2016
The workdays are long as customer service gets you further in this business. You need to be on call 7 days a week, but the rewards are good. The beer industry is obviously a fun atmosphere
Pros
Budget to work with on a yearly basis for entertainment
Cons
Not too many days off

Work/life balance is alright. Day off requests are awful, they have so many people listed as "available if needed", but your day off request you put in a month in advance, gets denied. Travel time is midline. 4 out of the 5 days i work, i'm local to my home. The other day i'm driving 40 miles to my first stop and 50 miles home with only partial reimbursement. You supervisors leave you alone, which unless you screw up, there's no reason for them to be needed. After peak season, your paycheck gets cut in half. I lost extra hours and the 100 miles from my check without notice. Only .38 cents per miles, but at the end of the month that's one bill. Right now i'm in the same stores four days a week, coming from being in stores once a week is a plus. Work load seems alright during off peak, but during peak the pay doesn't equal the work. When the higher ups come to stores and visit and actually run into the merchandisers, they're more helpful and willing to get you help than your supervisor.
Pros
You work from home and no one bothers you
Cons
Sudden drop in pay/work load v pay

Demanding job that is rewarding if you make it your life
Merchandiser (Former Employee) –  Mechanicville, NYDecember 29, 2014
If you're a morning person, who doesn't mind having a ton of responsibility and a small team of highly critical supervisors looking over your shoulders, this is the perfect job. Start at 6am, and work through a sizeable list of accounts that all expect to see you in the early hours of the morning, Build, fill and rotate several displays in each store. Check the dates on every product you have in every store. Rotate, rotate, rotate! Move product from point A to point B, and then point C until new product arrives, in which case you move that to point A, point B to point C, etc. Make sure the overstock items, which you have little to no control over the quantity of, is organized neatly in a small area of the back room. Handle product that probably should never have been ordered, but was ordered by a salesman who works on commission and just sends as much as he can in order to inflate his paychecks. And, while handling that product, answer countless phone calls from said salesman, criticizing your every move. Take care of a list of 8 - 12 stores each day, that could easily take up to 8 hours of work each, if the job is done properly. When that is over, you have to do paperwork at home, on your own time.
Pros
The pay can be somewhat decent after years of sticking with it, The Christmas party used to be very good.
Cons
Not a good job if you have a life outside of work or a family you want to spend time with, Decent pay isn't worth a lot of what you have to deal with, Unreasonable early start time could be easily improved by pushing it back just an hour, Not enough merchandisers to cover all the work that is needed to be done, Salesmen are way too pushy and demanding, Deliveries are often late and can mess up your entire day

On-Premise Account Manager (Former Employee) –  Mechanicville, NYOctober 9, 2014
DeCrescente Distributing is a great company to learn business of Sales. Extremely cutthroat sales organizaiton, with little room for career growth, and low end for compensation. You definitely will have to earn your stripes with this organization and take your skills to another company that will be more appreciative.

Human Resource Manager (Former Employee) –  Mechanicville, NYSeptember 6, 2012
Great benefits and "Give Back" from owners. Best places to work. Too much involvement from top at low levels creates tension and unrealistic environment. Overall strong company with great people.
Pros
fun culture and world class facility. strong benefits.
Cons
less than desirable work life balance for mid and upper management.
