Treasury Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, KSJune 19, 2016
Before the new management company came in, Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc. was a dream come true. The management there was unbeatable. They would order lunch once a month to reward the employees for their hard work and dedication. The COO would personally walk by and say good morning to everyone and make sure they had everything they needed to start their day, everyday. They did a prayer before the monthly lunch and in any time of need. Although I am not religious, it was comforting to know that they weren't forcing their beliefs on you. Very open minded people within the company.
Pros
Free lunches once a month, Flexible Scheduling, The People!!!

Compost Route Driver (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, KSDecember 5, 2015
Deffenbaugh Inc. had the potential to be an amazing place to work. However the leadership was lacking due to being owned by a business firm that had no understanding of the trash industry. Now the company has been bought out my Waste Management and the standards and expectations have been raised. They do not want their drives working more than fifty hours a week and they have switched from a daily salary to a hourly wage
Pros
If you are patient you will advance, they have position all across the U.S. if you are willing to move.
Cons
In constant turmoil in the morning due to a lack of organization

In a truck on route with an expected 12 hour day.
Driver (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, KSJune 12, 2015
The job consisted of 12 hour shifts, both a day and night shift. The company had many problems caused by a Investment team ownership that only took from the company, and did not reinvest enough money to keep it up and running in good shape. There were many unsafe conditions, that only the driver could be at fault. It was like the immediate supervisors were only looking for fall guys to protect their own jobs. Vehicles had to be shared, causing a driver to always be treated unfairly.
Pros
There was an opportunity to make good money, when everything worked out just right.
Cons
As it was set up, any type of mishap, natural (rain, snow) or other, cost the driver.

Driver (Current Employee) –  Omaha, NeMay 27, 2014
The worst job I've ever had. You are paid by the day, you work anywhere between 11 hours to 13 hours a day 5 days a week. You only receive one helper. The Supervisors are rude, and very disrespectful. On numerous accounts helpers have to tried to fight the Supervisors. Most of the time drivers and helpers just quit. The work load is too great for two people to handle. Most of the helpers are ex-cons which doesn't mean anything negative but its as if the supervisors feel like they treat them anyway they want. Your day is soaked up by Deffenbaugh(Deathenbaugh). You will be worn out everyday, you wont have time to go to the bank, dmv, see your family etc....

Worst place I have ever worked
Mechanic  (Former Employee) –  Shawnee, KSJuly 2, 2013
The smell from the landfill was better then the management. The typical day was "How could the main shop supervisor play games with you today" he had to be self entertained daily. I learned that if you didn't work over time even when your kids are sick and you're a single parent they found a way to fire you. Your co-worker are in a trans after they been there for a while, the same thing day in day out. Would never recommend this place to anyone.
Pros
Being off work
Cons
Stress levels high because of child hood game playing

Driver (Current Employee) –  Omaha, NEJuly 23, 2013
Report to work, check in with supervisor, inspect truck before leaving, take route sheet and go to route and pull residential trash. Safety is a key concern and learned that it pays to be aware of what is going on around you at all times. All my bosses are great. They work with you the best way possible when problems arise. All my coworkers are awesome. They are a great group of people and really know how to make you feel welcome. I would have to say what i found difficult was the lifting. sometimes people can make them heavy. Talking with all my customers and hearing them say thanks for the awesome job.
Pros
Great people, Good equipment
Cons
If there is a shortage of drivers you are helping pick up the slack.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, KSFebruary 9, 2015
I loved the work it self. I got to work with the public. It was the management and the micro management that was stressful. Most customer service reps were scared that anytime they could lose their job.
