Great salary.
Mental Health Associate (Current Employee), Atlanta, GA – May 15, 2013
Pros: salary, great director, and nurses
Cons: staff is limited to deal with the patient load.
Dekalb Medical Center is a pretty good hospital to work for, being that the pay scale compared to most hospitals is very high.
I have been there for many years, and do enjoy it most of the time. I only work here PRN, this is my part time job. I learned alot about mental illness and different cultures, and belief systems of people. The issues of staffing – more... are not that great. I am the only patient care tech on a floor or 15 to 18 patients, and it does become a bit much. Overall, I would rate DMC from a 1 to 10 at a 7. – less

a very educational work place
Patient Care Technician (Former Employee), Decatur, GA – November 14, 2012
Pros: paid time off, sick leave, just to name a few
A typical night at work for me when working for Dekalb Medical was never a dull moment with all the different types of patients. It was also very educational for me,as for management if we had a little more teamwork it would have been 5 stars. My co-workers were and still are 5 stars. The hardest part of the job was sometimes working short handed,and – more... the most enjoyable part was taking care of my patients. – less

Pros: doctor's provide lunch on wensday
Cons: only one 30min break for the 12hrs your working
The Clinical Decision Unit is for observation. Its a 24-48hr unit. Our patients has to be self-efficient due to patient safety. I start Vital signs at 8,12 and 4pm. As well as ACHS Accu-checks. I make sure that the nurses have admitt packets. I make sure the rooms is stocked and as well as breaking down charts. I assist with baths, Ng tubes, cathere's. – more... I start IV's as well as D/C IV's.I start cardic monitors and I document everything. – less

Great Office enviroment a wonderful team
Medical Assistant (Current Employee), Decatur, GA – October 3, 2012
Pros: float pool
Cons: healthcare
The doctor that I currently work under specializes in geriatric healthcare. I love my elderly patients, that's the most enjoyable part of my job. I have learned all rountined clinical back office procedures. I can't really say that there is a "hardest part" to my job...the most challenging part if definitely when I can't come through for my patients.

Pros: great learning experience

Gave me a good overall learning experience as a new nurse. Mgmt and co-workers were all so good to work with. The hardest part of the job was at first, it was early in nursing and you very often had a very heavy load. I learned alot there

Seems like it would have been a good place to work had i stayed
Registered Nurse, Med-surg (Former Employee), Lithonia, GA – September 24, 2012
Pros: new equipment, facility
Cons: patient ratio, acuity
The days at Dekalb were long. You could never leave on time and it was very far away from where I lived. That being said, it was a new hospital with state of the art equipment. I learned that you had to work very quickly and efficiently which left very time for patient interaction.

work friendly environment.
Patient Care Technician (Former Employee), Decatur, GA – August 16, 2012
Pros: i loved the purpose of the clinic itself, being able to asist with procedures, and learn while in nursing school. they staff were from all walks of life and got along really well.
Cons: no opportunity for advancement once i passed the nclex. no set hours, no benefits
DTC is a small clinic within the hospital. A typical day varied for me cause some days I would have to open the clinic, which required me to do all the duties that are necessary for the clinic to function including checking inventory, setting up for procedures, faxing orders to hospital registration etc. The rest of the day I would prep patients for – more... procedures, assist doctors in performing those procedures and recovering those patients. Other days I would wash and sterilize endoscopy scopes all day. The job was good for me because I was in Nursing school at the time so I learned alot and recieve alot of exposure other than clinicals to nursing practice. Because I was non benefited I was flexed from work often and my work schedule was inconsistent. All this was done by management in effort to save money. I enjoyed the fast paced out patient services the clinic provided. – less
