Licensed Practical Nurse, Delmar, NY - December 29, 2015
My day would start at 0830. We would start seeing pt's at 0900. I would get heights, weights and do eye exams on PE's then room the pt's and get VS.When seeing sick pt's if there was c/o a ST then I would set up a cult plate to check for Strep. If there were urinary c/o I would get a clean catch for testing and possible TX. If there were resp issues the Dr may order PFT's pre and post nebulizer TX's. Our pt's were from newborn to age 23. They would transfer out of our practice on there 24th birthday. I gave immunizations and also helped with minor procedures such as staple/suture application and removal along with wart TX. I would clean and autoclave dirty instruments. Also keeping tract of supplies and making nursing supervisor aware when we were low. We would alternate working the triage line. We also had a schedule in advance so that we could alternate late nights. We all worked together as a team which is extremely important to me. I learned a great deal about Pediatric medications and treatment for there illnesses. The most enjoyable part of my job was developing such a great relationship with the children and their families.
