A highly educational and personally rewarding experience
Technician Assistant (Former Employee), 北京市, C22 – April 18, 2013
Pros: culturally rich environment
Cons: too short of a time period
At having been exposed to a culturally diverse environment, I have learned the true nature of diplomacy and superior customer service.

productive place with benefits
Translator (Current Employee), Washington, DC – April 16, 2013
Pros: good health benefits; job security; good leave and telecommuring policies.
Cons: dead-end jobs.
The job offers security--practically for life--but advancement prospects are nil. It isd recommended for all ages--entry-levl to mid-career. Prospects depend on availability of vacancies rather than poductivity.

Fast paced and engaging environment
Intern (Former Employee), Washington, DC – March 11, 2013
Pros: managements' style
Cons: pay
Working with passionate and supportive colleagues made for a more laid back day to day experience. The hardest part of the job was identifying an area that I wanted to gain more hands on experience in and actually getting the chance to do it.

Productive and fun workplace!
Service Desk Analyst (Former Employee), Beltsville, MD – February 19, 2013
Pros: learning something new everyday
Cons: inexperience shift lead
Work in a call center type atmosphere, where bulk of the calls are during the day. Deal mostly with customer's request from resetting passwords, unlocking accts, creating mailbox groups, etc. My co-workers are friendly and supportive.

Seasonal Clerical Intern
Clerical Intern (Former Employee), Washington, DC – January 17, 2013
I participated in a lot of activities as far as work. I learned that there is a lot that one individual can do to help the state department as a facility to look good or bad as far as good quality work. The management is awesome I met a lot of good people and it's very diverse in the state department. My co-workers were always willing to help me when – more... I was confused on a project and just nice people. I can't remember the hardest part of the job. The most enjoyable part of the job was completing my last project that I had at state. That project was assisting with the swearing in ceremony of the ambassador of Guatemala. I enjoyed that project thoroughly because I felt important that people had to RSVP to me in order to come to the ceremony. I completed that job and everyone complimented me on how much of a great job I did. – less

Financial Analyst (Current Employee), Arlington, VA – January 3, 2013
Pros: ability to travel, intelligent people
Cons: a certain level of snarkiness.
It is a typical government bureaucracy, but the DOS has many talented people. I enjoy working at DOS a lot, they tend to be very cultured, educated and traveled.

Amazing place to work if you love to travel!
Assistant Detachment Commander (Former Employee), Santo Domingo, PR – December 25, 2012
Pros: tons of travel.
Cons: you may be assigned to a country you don't like for a minimum of 3 years.
The State Department is an amazing place to work if you love to travel abroad. I spent 3 years working in the security department as a contractor for the State Department. The salary is awesome, they pay to relocate you and all of you're belongings overseas as well as your vehicle. You hardly pay any bills overseas, except maybe a cable bill.

Great place, great opportunities.
General Office Assistant (Current Employee), Dimondale, MI – December 6, 2012
Pros: excellent benefits.
Cons: short breaks.
My typical day includes receiving 100+ inbound calls that involve Michigan driving records. We answer questions about eligibility and other factors that might affect their records. I've learned that you have to remain professional no matter what and to keep a level head when dealing with irate customers. My managers and co-workers are fantastic and – more... they definitely help us make it through the day. The hardest part of the job is having to be on the phones all day, but working with great people makes it more enjoyable. – less

Knowledge Bucket - you will take a lot away
Technical Writer (Current Employee), Arlington, VA – November 15, 2012
Working at DoS, I was able to expound on SharePoint and how to fundamentally write within a government template (very strict!). These two avenues for developing and securing technical documentation has given me an additional enhancement to good business documentation practice.
