Great Experience
Residential Counselor (Former Employee) –  Egg Harbor Township, NJMay 15, 2017
A typical day depending on the shift being worked would be getting the clients ready for day program. This includes assisting with showers, making breakfast, helping with dressing, and transporting.

Fun and rewarding job!
Direct Care Professional (Former Employee) –  Westminster, COMay 13, 2017
This was a great place to work overall, but for the right person. The hours are crazy and you can't just leave and have the kids there by themselves. But the clients taught me more about life and morals than I ever could have imagined! I'm awful at practicing self-care when my job is so hectic as I would replay days and be concerned about kids or if I forgot to tell the overnight staff where I put someone's headphones.
Yes, you can get assaulted. You have to learn ways to deescalate the kiddos and you have to trust the staff and ensure there's enough staff on campus to help. If a bunch of kids are becoming upset at once, Devereux is not scared to ask for police help as well. But I've had times where a bunch of kids start fighting and I jump in the middle so they won't hurt each other and then the staff gets hurt.
Pros
The clients are the biggest pros!, The management was extremely supportive as well., Having the kids draw you a picture, watching the kids learn and grow and be happy
Cons
You never go home at your scheduled time, no breaks as theyre not logical to leave the kids alone - sucks for a smoker!, physically rough sometimes, emotionally rough

Family Support Specialist II (Current Employee) –  Phoenix, AZMay 13, 2017
Since new leadership took over in Phoenix, AZ, everyone is afraid of job security, the morale is low, the employees are stressed, and they have let go many of the respected long time staff and brought their own people. Sadly there is a huge back log due to the loss of staff and it is the children who suffer.

Direct Care Professional (Current Employee) –  Palm Bay, FLMay 11, 2017
A great place to work, but advancement is difficult. i worked there for 5 years and remained part-time the entire time, despite several opportunities for full-time transition. Was always overlooked for some reason or another.

ps (Former Employee) –  Philadelphia, PAMay 9, 2017
Devereux doesn't take in consideration that they don't pay there employees enough to survive. You have to work over time like crazy just to obtain a decent amount on your bi weekly check. They are always quick to hire people but don't train them so the turn over rate is very high.

Behavior Coach (Former Employee) –  Phoenix, AZMay 8, 2017
The work with the children is awesome, however the documentation requirements are ridiculous and the reason they have such a high turnover rate. Management was very considerate of the workload and tried their best to help out, but the documentation requirements lead to much burnout. Good benefits and decent competitive pay for this field. It is a fulfilling job, just a very difficult one to do much beyond a year.

This is a level 6 psychiatric residential facility. It is a stressful environment. If you are made for this type of dangerous environment I would not recommend. You go to work in tact but come home bruised and broken.

Is a good fit for the right person. Will be hurt on the job, most common injuries are concussions. It's working with troubled youth, most people stay because of the bond between staff.
Pros
Comradary
Cons
Will definetly get hurt and they pay is not worth it

Executive Assistant (Former Employee) –  Viera, FLApril 28, 2017
No two days at Devereux were alike. This was a multi-faceted position that required intense multi-tasking skills. This organization cares a lot about their residents and their employees. Opportunities for advancement were always available. I loved being a part of the team.

Actively assist the clients (Former Employee) –  West Chester, PAApril 19, 2017
A typical day at Devereux included; caring for children from personal hygiene to other needs. When working with these individuals I learned there are all forms of autism, some severe, others not. However, there were many things about his disorder that I did not know and now am grateful to have worked with these individuals. The culture is multi cultured and everyone tends to work together. The hardest part of the job would have to been the time constraint with getting the children up, dressed, fed, and to school in a timely manner. The most enjoyable part of the job was caring for others and putting a smile on their face.
Pros
Food was accessible to employees daily
Cons
Rushing to care for the child

Education Employee (Former Employee) –  Red Hook, NYApril 18, 2017
Typical day in Education Dept- 7:15-3:15 expect to be on your toes all day! You'll learn things about the population there that you can not learn in any college text book or class! Management does there best considering staffing challenges. Culture in education is bad due to a poorly run union. The union leaders there are the worst of the worst. That in turn makes dealing with employees who have no work ethics the hardest part of the job. Recently a very divisive teacher has left after 10+ years. Devereux should benefit from that tremendously. The most enjoyable part is certainly the kids!!
Pros
Free lunch, great health coverage, lots of vacation time.
Cons
Not always easy to get breaks, epically if you're hard worker. Absolute joke of a union president and vice president.

Child Welfare Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Tampa, FLApril 5, 2017
Well as they say, "stuff rolls downhill" so if you are in a management position you get held accountable for everything even if you may not have had knowledge. They are more concerned about the bottom line and performance measures than they are about safety of their employees..
Pros
flexible schedule
Cons
Management needs to learn to walk the walk and talk the talk
