good opportunities
Fraud Prevention Representative (Former Employee) –  West Valley City, UTFebruary 16, 2016
This was a good place to work. friendly people and teammates. training goes by fast depending on the department you are hired in.
Supervisors are very helpful. This was a call center position and I had never done this type of job before. If you have a preference for call centers, this is good for you. The building is also in a good location.
Pros
free meals on holidays if you're scheduled, some supervisors bring treats for their teams on a regular basis, great lunchroom and workout facility and health clinic.
Cons
must always have id badge on you during the day because you can't get on to any floor without it, raises are subjective to performance, some supervisors are more strict about calls than others.

Fantastic place to work if you like talking!
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) –  New Albany, OHJanuary 26, 2016
Discover has awesome benefits including but not limited to insurance and a huge amount of PTO.

Management is very touch-and-go. lots of Team Leaders are externally hired and therefor don't know as much about the job role and policies as tenured agents. however, tenured Team Leaders who are familiar with the job role are very helpful and understanding.

Co-workers are great! Most call centers ive heard have fairly annoying and dramatic environments. Discover is not within that stereotype.

Hardest part of the job is meeting your statistics, if you are slacking even a little bit you probably wont meet your requirement.
Pros
Very slack dress code, jeans and hoodies all the way!
Cons
Days feel very long, And the job can be very exhausting if you arent a big talker.

Beautiful Facility
Fraud Representative (Former Employee) –  New Albany, OHMarch 2, 2016
Lovely facility in New Albany, OH. That's about it. Pay and benefits are terrible, training is lacking, and people consistently dress like they crawled out of bed. There is a difference between business casual and just plain sloppy. There has to be a gym and a cafeteria (both very nice) because essentially you are in prison during your shift. Can't look at your cell to see if your elderly parents or child's daycare called. Breaks, during which there isn't enough time to eat, check your messages, and use the bathroom are short and aggressively monitored. You can use the restroom 3 times a day...during first half of shift, meal time, and second half of shift. God forbid the coffee you need to stay engaged kicks in. Even after all of that, some people love it.
Pros
Cafeteria, gym
Cons
Everything else

Fraud Prevention Agent (Former Employee) –  Salt Lake City, UTJanuary 7, 2016
This job is not for everyone, it involves fast paced back to back phone calls relating to credit card and/or bank related issues. An average day at work begins by signing in and taking calls right away, taking your breaks and such and signing off at the end of the shift. Expect 50+ calls per day. The location is probably the best part, with an on site gym as well as a very large cafeteria and separate snack/break rooms. The lake in the back smells, it's bearable. Other employees are very friendly and supportive, however there are issues in management that I feel went unnoticed such as a lack of supervision over mentors. The hardest part of the job was the sheer number of calls. The most enjoyable part was the laid back feel not usually present in call centers when not on a call. The wide range of benefits was probably the best part about the job.
Pros
Events, on site gym, many many benefits, able to move up.
Cons
Lack of constructive criticism.

Discover card review
Business Risk Investigation Analyst (Current Employee) –  New Castle, DENovember 12, 2015
I would love to see Discover Bank retain quality agents by offering more competitive salaries and providing additional resources to help employees map out long term careers at Discover. Investing in existing agents for retention seems more efficient that continually hiring in droves in hopes that a few will stick.
Pros
Great culture and values (company genuinely cares about customers), good benefits (especially PTO- 20 days/yr for new full-time employees), enjoyable atmosphere. The company is very committed to work-life balance
Cons
Low salaries compared to similar positions with other companies. rate, few opportunities to branch out beyond customer service-related positions

Billing Dispute Arbitrator (Former Employee) –  Salt Lake City, UTOctober 29, 2015
Wow, where to begin. I'll keep it short. If you're depressed and think that life will never get better, Discover is the place for you. There is ZERO job advancement opportunity. It amazed me the number of people that had worked there since the eighties that are still doing the exact same thing they started. The benefits are the big thing they will try and play up, they really aren't very good, nor do they make up for the way which the company and its deadbeat customers treat you.

New Albany - Customer Service Supervisor (Current Employee) –  OhioJanuary 6, 2016
Awful company to work for. They advertise that they are driven to promote you however, they will not promote you unless you are very in with the right people. They would rather terminate you before promote you. This company is not good. Increase salary for people under 12 dollars an hour up to what I am working for after being at the company for over 2 years.

Senior Credit Analyst - Call Escalations Manager (Former Employee) –  West Valley City, UTJanuary 8, 2016
Compensation is average among similar employers.
When hired, if you have any relevant experience, make sure you negotiate for compensation of current skills, otherwise you'll be brushed under the rug the whole time for any pay increases
