Discovery Communications
Media Library Coordinator (Former Employee), Silver Spring, MDSeptember 22, 2014
Pros: lots to do, room for advancement within company
Cons: data entry
Working for Discovery Communications was interesting and fun. The company had plenty to offer and there was never a moment where I spent time wondering "what can I do now?". You would be working for a television company, there is always something new happening. I specifically worked in the Media Asset Library. I saw all of the new shows that came in, – more... organized the media library, did a lot of data entry and managed requests for media that was already out on loan. There was always something happening and that made work days pass by in a breeze. The company offered several shift positions, day, afternoon and evening. So there was a lot of flexibility of where to be in this department. The media asset library also is a great place to learn about how discovery works, meet all of the producers that generate content and find other opportunities within the building. Also, Discovery has several locations across the world, so there was always opportunities to move up and away within the same corporation. – less

Productive and fun place to work.
Teacher's Aide (Current Employee), Stanton, CAJuly 20, 2014
A very fun and loving environment to work at. You teach developmentally disabled clients while also learning new things along the road. You teach them everyday responsibilities while also learning the responsibilities to take care of another being of your own. Co-workers are very friendly and family-oriented. You will learn more new skills in this job – more... as how much you teach. – less

Guest Relations Representative (Current Employee), Times Square, NYSeptember 13, 2013
Cons: no benefit, just 15 minutes for break time
i am working 5 days a week, morning shift about 5 hours a day. I am learning about guest relations such as giving information about galleries rules to the patron or visitors. I am having a great time working with my co workers. But the hardest part of this job is to be in the room which is dark and cold for many hours and the payment is very low, it – more... is hard to live with this amount of salary. – less

Typical day at work
Cashier/Salesman/Greeter (Former Employee), Pembroke Pines, FLJanuary 14, 2013
Pros: we worked as a team, managers treated us to lunch every now and then, in return the employees did the same.
Cons: short breaks
My job consisted of helping customers find what they need and make them feel comfortable about the clothes they need were buying, dressing bust forms, organizing and cleaning the store after closing.I learned how to be more confident in my speech and that customers genuinely enjoyed my services. No part of the job was really too hard, if you put effort – more... into what you're doing. Talking to customers and seeing what they were looking for and building a bond with my returning customers is what I loved the most about my job. – less

Interviewer (Former Employee), Twin Falls, IdahoJanuary 4, 2012
Pros: nicely balanced breaks
The floor managers are all pretty pleasent people, easy to work with, and friendly. The job itself was easy and rewarding as well. However when calling in for work the programming wasn't ever what it was supposed to be so it was really inconvenient to have to go in twenty minutes early to find out if I had to work or not.

Commissions Administrator (Current Employee), Johannesburg, GPOctober 14, 2014
Cons: overtime ( weekends)
Typical day at work would busy with most people minding their own busy and pushing productivity, nice working environment that allows you to excel in your daily task, Important lesson learned is to always take my work serous no matte how small or little the task is.

co-workers are very friendly people easy to work with helpful at all times.

Management – more... difficult as always but ensuring that every single one of us is productive.

Most difficult part of the job would be when management compromises the business rule to accommodate other brokers -while I have emphasized the rule to the broker or broker consultant. – less

Snr For Investigater / Handwriting Examiner (Current Employee), Sandton, GPJuly 8, 2014
Pros: high stakes and rewards
Cons: high stress levels
I deem my work environment to be an excellent "learning organisation". Everyday is filled with huge challenges and to do the right thing. Thinking and problem solving is at the order of the day. I have learned that I am one of the best (in my field of expertise) in South Africa, and can hold my own with possibly the best in the world in the field of – more... Insurance Forensic Investigations and Handwriting Examinations. The hardest part is not making a mistake as it can severely influence peoples lives and the most enjoyable part is to know that one has positively changes someones life. – less

A TYPICAL DAY AT WORK IS FILLED WITH ENTHUSIASM, HAVING SOCIAL CONVERSATIONS WITH COLLEGUES.
I HAVE GAINED THE EXPERIENCE IN THE DEPARTMENT THAT HAS TAUGHT ME SKILLS OF TIME MANAGEMENT AND DEADLINE DRIVEN. CO WORKERS ARE ENERGETIC AND OPTIMISTIC DESPITE SOME CHALLENGES THAT WE MIGHT HAVE. HARDEST PART OF THE JOB IS TO ADVISE MEMBERS OF TERMINATION ALTHOUGH – more... PART OF THIS JOB BUT REALITY OF HAVING A HEART. MOST ENOYABLE IS THE FUN SOCIAL NETWORKING WITH OTHERS WITHIN THE ORGANISATION. – less

Consultant (Current Employee), Johannesburg North, GPMay 8, 2014
Pros: there was a go home target available daily.
Cons: workload and staffing.
Discovery has certainly provided me with skills that I am able to use in any job environment. The culture at Discovery is amazing and the people are great. Each day was extremely busy and I was always kept on my toes. Hardest part of the job was time management. The greatest part of the job was the people I worked with and the CSI activities I took – more... part in. – less

Billing Specialist (Current Employee), Pretoria, GPMarch 28, 2014
Pros: challenging
Cons: long hours and poor salaries
Discovery has taught me to be more responsible in terms of my work, to always strive for excellence and always exceed customers. The organization prides itself in Excellent service delivery to customers. A typical day at work would include reconciling accounts and maintaining relations with internal and external clients(brokers).

My co-workers are – more... the best, Discovery always hires great people however I feel that Management is more customer oriented and thus tend to ignore employees. I feel that they could do a lot better in terms of salaries/benefits. – less
