Substitute for the DOE teachers.
Substitute Teacher (Former Employee), Honolulu, HIAugust 23, 2013
Pros: pay, flexible hours
Cons: late notice
I usually received a call either the night before or the morning that I need to work. I mainly worked with elementary students. I learned that teachers work hard! There was no management. The only time we received direction was from the teachers. Most times we wouldn't get a schedule to work with. Co-workers were rare but sometimes I would be aiding – more... a special ed teacher. The hardest part of the job is not knowing what kind of class you'll be walking into. The best part of the job was the pay and the flexibility. – less

I was honored to hold such a position for the Department of Energy. I would have never thought to apply there had the job not been offered to me. However, the instant lay off really put me in a bind.

A typical day at work consist of a lot of organization, I've learned that people with disabilities need assisting as well, management helped out when help was needed, I worked well with other co-workers, the hardest part with this assignment is not knowing when the job was going to end. I enjoyed going to work every day.

You become part of a big family.
Secretary Specialist (Former Employee), Miami, FLApril 4, 2013
Pros: hours, and the holiday get togethers
Cons: sometimes you have to work out in the cold and rain.
Every day was different from the previous day. You were on the go from the time you arrive to the time you leave to go home. Your co-workers become your extended family. The hardest part of the job is sorting the mail. The most enjoyable part is that once you become part of the family you are never turned away when you ask for help.
