cashier (Former Employee), Ponte Vedra Beach, FL – May 8, 2014
Pros: bookstore nearby
Cons: riding in the rain
Working at the dollar tree was alright not good but alright like any first job you get. A typical day for me was to restock the shelves, make sure the register still worked, and that any product wasn't opened. My manager taught me how use the cash register. She was a good boss. As for my co-workers some were nice, others were mean but that comes with – more... any job really. The only hard part about the job was transportation since I had an old bike and the chains kept falling off, but the most enjoyable part was just keeping the store organize. – less

Pros: helping others
A typical day of work was energetic with a purpose of making sure that customers were recieving the best products and having a safe environment.I learned daily that customers will spend their time and finances with a business if it is safe and they feel like the workers know them and care for them personally.Teamwork is the best way of getting the job – more... done, and their was not a hard day of work.Working with management and co-workers to assit customers feel safe, enjoy their shopping with the best product available put a smile on my face as well as theirs. – less
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Tulsa, OK – November 6, 2013
Pros: long breaks
Cons: short handed
I was a sales associate I ran the register and depending on if I had time or not I would also do stock. I learned how to be quick at checking people out on busy days cause sometimes I was by my self. My management was not the easiest to get along with but they were active in the job they did. My co workers were easy to get along with cause we all joined – more... in to do things together. – less
Cashier (Former Employee), Dawson Springs, KY – October 30, 2013
Cons: short breaks and hours
Working at the Dollar Store made me realize people need to choose wisely before highering a person as a manager. They had a manager that stayed on the phone the whole time we were working and the store manager at the time wouldn't do anything about it. If the person running the cash register needed help at night more than likely there was no one to – more... help because there was only two people in the store and one was the manager so they were having to clean everything while you ran the cash register, brought in everything from outside the store and cleaned the area and stocked up from if it was needed. – less

Supervisor/cashier/stocker (Former Employee), Yakima, WA – July 18, 2013
Pros: the good thing about working there was having a good work enviornment to work in.
Cons: the store owner had to close her store which meant we all had to look for other employment.
A regular work day for me was opening the store, counting tils fixing and documenting mistakes and gettin myself and other employees ready for the work day. I learned how to be responsible, run a store alone and effectively communicate with customers and other employees. As a supervisor I worked effectively with other employees and supervisors as a – more... team, which made delegating and taking orders easy and that created a good work enviornment. My co-workers were awsome. They were always ready to work and help each other out when necessary and took initiative when needed and to help solve problems with customers as well store issues. The hardest part of my job was having to catch customers who stole items from our store, report them and ban them from our store. The most enjoyable part of working at the Dollar Store was knowing that the employees were glad they culd rely on me. Having everyone work together and alway having something to do made time go by fast. – less
Cashier (Former Employee), McAllen, TX – July 1, 2013
Good for a first time job. A typical day at work includes floor assessment, restock empty shelf. Management is varied and often meet new co-workers. The hardest part is lifting, carrying heavy items up and down the latter. The most enjoyable part are the prices everything is a dollar.
Sales, Cashier, Manager (Former Employee), Astoria, NY – June 18, 2013
Affordable prices for my fellow peers, I was happy that the customers were not paying sky rocket type of prices for great products. Hardest part to make orders for the store to have the right amount of products. Most enjoyable part was seeing the smiles on the customers faces.
Cashier (Former Employee), Southington, CT – June 8, 2013
Pros: decent hours
Cons: short breaks
I would come in for my shift and assist customers in purchasing their items. At the end of my shift, I'd help the manager close the store and then go through the store to pick up and sort all the items before putting them back in their proper places.
