Dominick's is no longer around. The company was basically going down hill. They started treating their employees bad and management wasn't any better.

This job had good days and bad days.
Produce Clerk (Former Employee), Glen Ellyn, ILApril 16, 2014
clock in and head over to the produce department where i would ask my manager where he wanted me to get started. i would go back into the cooler and load up a cart of whatever needed stocking. this would go on for about 3- 7 hours and then i would face the shelves and clean up the back room, mop and sweep. co-workers were great. the hardest part was – more... to stay motivated. same stuff every day – less

Good work place and easy to deal with people
Front-End Cashier (Former Employee), Frankfort, ILMarch 31, 2014
My day at Dominick's would consist of dealing with customers on the front end and other department coworkers, and having a working understanding of all of them. My management would encourage leadership and team work.
Hardest part would be dealing the disgruntled customers, but mostly I overcame this by keeping a level head.

Grocery Clerk/Cashier/Sales Specialist (Former Employee), Western Springs, ILMarch 26, 2014
Pros: meet people new people, flexible schedule, opportunity to advance within the company
Cons: flexible scheduling, lack of help
Management was wasn't always the easiest to work for, they were very demanding of everyone. If you were able to do what they asked though you were treated very well.

A typical day would involve helping customers and stocking shelves. Sometimes depending on the department that I would see over 300 customers and in an eight hour shift.

The hardest part – more... of the job was actually the most enjoyable part of the job. Helping customers can be very difficult when they are upset or unhappy about something. But helping them out and making sure they leave in a much better mood then when they came in leaves me feeling better about myself and what choose to do. – less

great place to work until safeway bought the company.
Head Clerk/ G.M. Manager (Former Employee), Northbrook, ILMarch 14, 2014
Pros: good comraderie, mostly good management and good time people
Cons: no help
a tale of 2 different ownerships. dominick's was a family business that took care of their employees. we were trained properly, had enough help to accomplish goals and had time to have fun. after 1998 that all changed as we bought by safeway corporate who were the worst company I have ever worked for. the hardest thing was that we had the same work – more... to do but had to do it with less and less each year. the best thing was building a team with employees and the customer interaction, actually getting to know customers on an individual basis. – less

challenging, yet rewarding job
Dairy manager (Former Employee), Naperville, ILFebruary 25, 2014
I had many tasks to do in a short time, also I may get called to help others out. I worked with alot of great and dedicated workers over the last 26 years. Some of the most recent managers were excellent, I would love to work with them again. The best part of the job was the rapport I shared with the customers and my co-workers. The hardest part of – more... the job was getting the work done and maintaining a clean and safe work enviroment. – less

Head Bookkeeper (Former Employee), Evanston, IL.February 6, 2014
Dominick's was my second family. Dealing with the diversity on a everyday routine was interesting. Work flow was busy but good pace. My career ended with them on 12/28/2013. Safeway/Dominick's laid over 6600 employees.

Working at the Dominick's distribution warehouse was challenging at times, but rewarding. I was able to learn many aspects of the warehouse such as shipping, receiving, inventory control and finally as a supervisor.

cutting edge in the growth of the pharmacy department
Pharmacy Manager (Former Employee), Gurnee, ILJanuary 29, 2014
Pros: to use my clinical knowledge
Cons: short or no breaks on a 12 hour shift
Seeing people healthy & happy was the most rewarding part of my job. Making each person I touched throughout my day feel valued. The hardest part sometimes was dealing with cut backs on products that the company no longer carried & finding alternatives to keep my customers happy & have a great shopping experience. My relationships with employees was – more... harmonious to motivate them to work hard & give 100% everyday in our department. Live by example for if we work as a team there is nothing we can not accomplish together. – less
