We believe that faculty professional development is a vital conduit through which Douglas College fulfills its mission, promotes its values, contributes to the growth of instructional excellence and builds a sense of cross- College community. We believe that professional development activities are most helpful and robust when they are voluntary, peer-based – more... and free to all College employees.

The mandate of the Faculty Development Office is to:
provide timely professional education and training for Douglas College instructional employees
enable individuals to achieve their learning objectives, so they can fulfill their roles and responsibilities within the teaching/learning process
model, promote and support new initiatives for the Strategic Directions of Douglas College


We value the expertise that resides within the employees of Douglas College, and whenever possible involve respected peers in the planning and facilitation of professional development activities. Within available resources, we also host recognized leaders from outside Douglas College as they share their expertise.

Faculty Development work is undertaken within the Centre for Academic and Faculty Development (CAFD, or "the Centre"). The Faculty Development Team is comprised of:

Lin Langley firmly believes in the power of education to change lives. In 1992, after a decade of work in teacher education at Simon Fraser University, Lin came to Douglas College to teach in the Communications Department and the Print Futures Professional Writing Program. In 2004/2005 she helped to develop the Faculty Peer Mentoring Program. Lin is an Instructional Skills Facilitator whose interests include the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, pedagogies of engagement, all manner of spoken communications, and mentoring in educational settings. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
