Management is effective but not helpful in term of advancement opportunities

There is definitely a set culture in various departments. Although working out of the box is always encouraged but it's never approved unless it meets the culture of management. Benefits are great but compensation not competitive. Difficult to advance. Not much promoting from within although qualified individuals exist.

Much of the challenge of this workplace comes from the economic stress placed on the media industry at this time in history. Working with international clients was fascinating.

During my 18 years of employment at Dow Jones & Co./The Wall Street Journal, I enjoyed learning every aspect of the publishing trade. From the concept of ad creation to seeing the final product in print. I enjoyed working with a great team both internal as well as external and come together to assure great customer service.

MY experience with Dow Jones was in the IT area. I found the management to be in flux with no real direction. This is a learn-by-example workplace. I was taught by watching and learning, not by being coddled and instructed. Its dog-eat-dog in journalism, and working at Dow Jones helped me see that very clearly.
