Productive and great place with nice people
Cable Assembler (Former Employee), Polson, MT – May 19, 2013
Pros: well timed lunches and breaks
Building cables that met the specifications of the drawings. i learned many skills there such as learning quick an easy ways to complete my work as fast as i can so that the order would be done on time, i also learned how to solder. The hardest part of my job was completing my work with no mistakes, but that is what made work so enjoyable for me, to – more... make it a challenge to complete my work with zero mistakes to save time for me and others. The management there was also great i got along well with my supervisors and leads. – less

Never Again
Management (Former Employee), MA – May 16, 2013
Terrible place to work - management are backstabbers although workload is so light maybe it's worthwhile for slackers. HR is completely incompetent.

Pay can't compensate - trust me.

Productive and energetic place to work.
Supply Specialist (Current Employee), Offutt AFB, NE – May 16, 2013
Pros: shift diferential and odd work week pay.
Cons: healthcare, home office is in another state so much of the personel work is over the phone or by e-mail.
We do receiving and shipping. Issue parts to the Navy. It is a small knit community at work. Everyone knows each other and there families. The hard part of the job is shift changes every three months. the best part of the job is working and joking with the co-workers.

Would not work for DRS TSI again until their upper management change over.
Satellite System Analyst / Logistics (Former Employee), Camp Arifjan, Kuwait – May 10, 2013
Pros: i enjoyed the work
Cons: drs tsi upper management has no integrity and loyalty to their employees.
I was terminated along with eleven other Military Veterans because our site lead made a decision to change our work schedule, DRS TSI upper management showed up at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait along with the investigators which they stayed in the same Hilton hotel during the investigation. I believe DRS Senior Management coming to Kuwait with the two investigators – more... could have influenced the investigators' final decisions. We all received a flight itinerary to return to the states by email before the investigation started, we were terminated before the investigation even started. We were treated like convicts before and after the investigation and they become more rash and impatient as the investigation continued. We were lied too and mislead why they were there until we were told one by one that we had to go to the Hilton hotel to be interview (not investigated). I hate being lied too and the thought of being played. DRS TSI upper management has no Integrity and Loyalty to their employees, they are liars. Management does not give you false information, fellow employees, job duties and office policies. According to sites like "Bad Bossology," a lot of people work for men and women who would rather lie than tell the truth. It's an epidemic sweeping the nation; it’s like cancer that can’t be stop. DRS TSI is unorganized and poorly managed because the upper management has no clue what is going on within their group,
all the management cares about is undercutting the bids to get contracts awarded then pushing the workers to get the job done in an unreasonable time schedule to make up for the underbidding, DRS was a good stable job for two years with OK benefits, my job provided me an opportunity to learn and grow. It’s not that the company is bad, it’s the people that they put in management positions. DRS TSI upper management would not return us to Camp Atterbury to do our final out-process, but there deployment hand book for DRS shows that they have to return us there. Regulation, rules, dictatorial styles, small minds in small people. – less

If you are looking for job stability, this is not the place for you.
Electrical Engineer (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – May 1, 2013
Pros: 9/80 schedule; good benefits; 6% 401k match
Cons: no leadership, layoffs, too many chiefs
I worked at DRS for over 15 years, it was once a great company. I managed to overcome 5 layoffs, 3 within the past 2 years. DRS has been trying to move towards a commercial market which they are still not sure if it will work. There is no stability, managers micromanage you, no leadership, and I do believe they will eventually close Dallas and move – more... to Florida just like how they have already moved several departments. – less

They are shutting down FPAM in SC Building. RW will be the next by the end of the year. I don't mind moving to Florida though.

Fast paced manufacturing environment during Iraqi War
Electronics Technician (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – April 30, 2013
Pros: great insurance benefits
Cons: worked most weekends
Great place to work and learn different skills and jobs. The people were always friendly and never too stressed to join in work discussions. The company obtains US government contracts for military night vision equipment. DRS manufactures its own microchips called FPAs. Focal Plane Arrays are the basis for detecting heat and light signatures. Cooled – more... and Uncooled arrays depending on application. The hardest part of any job is having to work on weekends and not spending them with the family. Still the work is very gratifying and knowing that we supported our Military Men and Women well that was just a great feeling. Control the night or any weather. – less

Would not work for DRS TSI again until their business practices mature
former employee (Former Employee), herndon – April 25, 2013
Pros: free breakfast on thursdays
Cons: low morale, extreme micromanagement by mid level managers\
This review applies to DRS Technical Services only. Working environment is hostile as mid level managers fear of being laidoff or fired. They are a large company that operates as a small business. Collaboration is not to improve quality or to increase productivity but for CYA purposes only. Knowledge management and development of documented policies – more... preceedures and common practices are all but none existent. Peers and coworkers are great but morale is low. Resistance to change in order to play in the same league as the big boys in industry is ingained in the culture as nice to hear but not now. Leaderships ability to motivate and inspire company loyalty from employees is low demenstrated by the high attrition (turnover\layoff \termination) rate. – less

Operations Supervisor (Former Employee), Melbourne, FL – April 23, 2013
Pros: onsite cafeteria, periodic all-hands meetings, holiday parties
Cons: contract work, periodic lay-offs
I started at DRS as a Test Technician I. Through hard work and dedication, I was given the opportunity for advancement quickly. With no prior work experience in manufacturing, management identified my talents and nurtured them. I grew from a Test Tech. to an Operations Supervisor in less than three years.
I worked with a large group of people across – more... three shifts. Teamwork and communication were essential. From assembly to test to engineering to management, we were successful in a high volume, high quality facility month after month. – less

This is a defense contractor company seeking to enter the regular civilian market.
Sr. Electrical Design Engineer (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – April 8, 2013
Pros: i would say the regular engineers and techs are great people and easy to work with.
Cons: dod cutbacks put a doubt in whether one will have a job.
Overall this is not a bad company to work with. Yet, there are some groups that were forced to work lots of overtime including holidays.

This is a company who's management and culture have been used to a slower pace of getting products out because its main customer was/is the department of defense. They are now trying to be more of a competitive company – more... in the civilian world but are having a hard time doing so.

My peers were good people and in that regards it was a great place to work. – less

A typical day at work consist of logging in to my computer and ordering class 9 parts for army security vehicles that are manufactored through the company and fielded to different military units that are deploying to Iraq or Afghanistan.
Also, tracking vehicles by RFIT-V Tags that are being shipped to different military bases around the world.

Horrible place to work
Software (Former Employee), Melbourne – March 2, 2013
If you want to do development work, find another company. This place treats engineers like dirt. Job security is non existent. Few managers have ever done real engineering work and have no appreciation for development. Projects are all under budget and behind schedule. Managers are completely inept.
