Great place to get defense experience
Senior Quality Engineer (Current Employee) –  Johnstown, PAFebruary 18, 2017
I went to DRS as a contractor and was hired on full time in less than 60 days. You will learn alot about defense products and electronics here. Make sure that you plan your life accordingly however, because if the calendar says its an off friday, its not always guaranteed.

We work a 9/80 schedule which is great
Pros
great pay and benefits, ethical company, coworkers care
Cons
mandatory OT even for salaried, hard to get time off sometimes

Could be a great place company; being ruined by upper management
Anonymous (Current Employee) –  Dallas, TXFebruary 5, 2017
Nepotism, cronyism and corruption run rampant... Most managers are arrogant, cut-throat and only interested in lining their own pockets. Management cannot be trusted. You will only advance in this company if you are a a relative or buddy of someone in a management role.

Management lies to their employees; lies to their customers

If you are lacking in morals and values, this may just be the place for you…
Pros
Great co-workers, for the most part
Cons
work-life balance; no room for advancement unless you are a buddy or relative, and many others...

Benefits good, job security low
Manufacturing Engineer (Former Employee) –  Melbourne, FLDecember 12, 2016
Yes, they do have good benefits in order to compete with other major employers in the area. There are some good Managers there, but many will do whatever they can to appease upper management at the expense of the employees under them. Overall, this company has lost a lot of core programs and a lot of good hard working employees in the past few years. They seem to be winning some new programs but I doubt that they will ever regain their past glory.
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
Job Security is low

Good place to work. I still wish I was still there. DRS closed up in 2013, because the defense budget was cut. I though I was going to retire from DRS. Over all it was the best job I ever had.

Watch your quality of life evaporate
Electrical Engineer III (Former Employee) –  Dallas, TXSeptember 22, 2016
The 9/80 is simply a cute term HR uses as a benefit. If you're a technical type, that off Friday is viewed as a chance for you get caught up to an impossible schedule. Nights, weekends, and holidays are used for the same purpose with a lot of strong-arm tactics employed to sway you that way. Married? Have a family? Want to experience life? You won't get to experience any of these under there employ.

Other than that, if you're not a political player, you can kiss your career goodbye as you'll get pigeon-holed in a position well below your capabilities and desires.

Can deal with those two situations? Constant restructuring and layoffs abound.

It's an immensely awful place to work. Do so if you're needing a paycheck. Else, run as far and fast as you can.
Pros
Paycheck.
Cons
Very unhealthy place to work. Avoid it if you can.
