Behavior Support (Current Employee), Durham, NC – April 12, 2013
Pros: summer breaks
Cons: low pay and no raises in almost 8 years
.A typical day at work conssit of helping students with positive behavior replacement skills. I have learned so many behavior strategies to assist both teachers and students. My co-workers are the greatest! The thing I enjoy most about my job is seeing progress within the students I work with.

Technician-Workstation II (Current Employee), Durham NC – March 14, 2013
Pros: vacation time always approved
Cons: long hours, horrible pay rate, no reimbursement for expenses
Durham Public Schools pays its IT staff less than its teachers and they expect you to be available 24-7. They do not reimburse you for mileage yet they expect you to travel to 5+ schools a day. No pay increases even while being the top performer in the dept.

Fun work place
School Bus Monitor (Current Employee), Durham, NC – September 24, 2012
Pros: benefits and five day work week
Cons: disrespectful children
I learned that working with disabled children is different from working with normal children.
The hardest part of my job is communicating with disrespectful children such as children with behavioral problems.

Challenging yet rewarding situations that changed with each class.
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee), Various schools – August 1, 2012
Pros: working with teachers and administrators to help students met their goals.
Cons: temporary, low pay, not my area of expertise.
Duties include serving as a substitue teacher at various grade levels or special subjects at different schools throughout the Durham Publis School system. Often selected by teachers to work with at risk or special needs students that required patience and persistance. I enjoyed helping students overcome personal issues problems with studies. The hardest – more... part of this job was seeing teacher trying to meet the specific educational need of so many student with varying abilities and academic needs. – less

EK Powe Elementary is a very friendly place to work.
K-2 Developmental Needs Teacher (Current Employee), Durham, NC – July 18, 2012
Pros: great people to work with and the children
Cons: no breaks, no time to do paper work at work.
The school I worked in was great. I enjoy the teachers and therapists I worked with. Everyone was very supportive. The over all school system was not as great to work for. They continued to add responsibilities without giving time to do it. Sometimes I felt I was doing more paperwork than I was teaching.

I enjoy working with children with developmental – more... disabilities but I need a break from the school system. – less

NC Wise Data Manager/ Book Keeper (Former Employee), Durham, NC – May 1, 2012
My typical work day is performing multiple task for multiple people and doing it with pride and confidence.

What I have learned is to learn what is expected of me and be proactive at getting better.

I have enjoyed working with others whether part of a team or as s manager.

The hardest part of a job making sure you complete it.

Most enjoyable part – more... of the day is being prepared. – less

Substitute Teacher (Current Employee), Durham, NC – April 5, 2012
Pros: flexibility in scheduling
Rating as employer.....75%. Many schools do not value the substitutes. Although there is compensation, it is low for what is expected of and from subs.
