I absolutely loved my time with E Source, and literally cried when I had to leave. Some of the most amazing, talented, and smart people I have ever worked with were there.
The company mission is utterly noble and idealistic, but their methods of accomplishing them are realistic and sensible.
When they accrued technical debt, they made efforts to reduce it. They were serious about User Experience, and all projects were based on input from actual users, and tools were created to make information accessible, and tools intuitive.
I had only two complaints:
We were paid well below industry standard rates
When interpersonal problems _did_ occur, it seemed to catch them so off-guard that they didn't always handle them well. Fortunately, that was rare. Unfortunately, I was a casualty of one such problem.
Despite that, I believe E Source is an excellent company that does good work - both in the sense that what they create has amazing value to the industry, to people in general, and the world, and that everything they produce is of high quality. They do great research, and are always looking for innovative ways to make it accessible, through amazing tools and programs.
There was absolutely no evidence of silo-ing. All teams were one great big team and everyone worked together. The company had a clear mission and well-considered goals, and everyone felt like a part of accomplishing those.
I was, and am still proud of the work I did there, and the people I worked with, and would work with them again.
