Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee), Westborough, MA – May 15, 2013
Pros: good suburban location
Cons: slow pace of adoption to technology
The work environment is pleasant, slow and casual. EMC also uses a lot of old technology and slow to adapt to newer technology. Office Wireless internet connectivity was implemented very late compared to other tech companies.Has good ideas but it is a traditional company and low risk takers.
Program Management Office Analyst (Contract) (Current Employee), Hopkinton, MA – May 8, 2013
EMC is a excellent company to work for the great benefits. My typical work day is coming in and focus on the task at hand, setting daily goals and reaching them. My co-worker are excellent team players, supportive and hardworking. The hardest part of my job is trying to balance work-life and home-life. What I do enjoy about my position is being able – more... to resolve complex cleint issues. – less
TC (Current Employee), McLean, VA – April 29, 2013
Pros: pay, benefits
Cons: poor management
This company has great products. Unfortunately, the management is horrible. EMC is not a place to think long term regarding your career. There is very little to no career growth. My overall opinion is negative. I should have taken a position with NetApp or Cisco.
Production Associate (Current Employee), Franklin, MA – April 21, 2013
Pros: technical experience, safe work environment
Cons: little opportunity for advancement, poor benefits
My experience at EMC has given me valuable experience in learning the Oracle and SAP systems, EMC company standards, and has improved my skills in critical thinking and problem trouble shooting. Unexpectedly, I have also found myself in a leadership role where I train the other associates in my area.
Contract work at EMC through Manpower is not very – more... beneficial as contract work offers poor benefits, no PTO and very small opportunity for advancement. – less
Sr Solutions Architect Custom Reporting Solutions (Current Employee), Irvine, CA – April 15, 2013
Long hours but the work is rewarding. I work directly with the Corporate clients. With their input I would architect a solution for their reporting needs.
Great place to work for when coming from outside company
Implementation Delivery Engineer (Current Employee), Bentonville, AR – April 15, 2013
Pros: benefits are great, good initial salary, management is very hands off
Cons: annual raises are poor, internal transfer is lacking, management is very hands off
EMC is a great place to work for for the initial job you hire on at. There is limited advancement and raises as the implied meaning of the company is to hire outsiders. They do not endorse internal promotions and raises compared to other companies I have read about. An average raise when being "promoted" is around 10-15% regardless of the pay scale – more... of the new job.
The benefits are amazing and one of a kind but management also seems to be lacking. There have been periods where I have had a boss that I have never met in person or go months without talking to. They do not seem to value the concerns of the employee very highly and what is best for them. – less
Time and Materials Administrator (Former Employee), Hopkinton, MA – April 12, 2013
Pros: variety of work
Cons: lay offs
During my time with EMC, I enjoyed the variety of work given to me. However, I worked during a time when layoff was incredibly high which made me insecure about my prospects and advancement with the company.
Dispatcher/Scheduler (Current Employee), Denver, CO – April 3, 2013
Pros: excellent pay and benefits
Cons: short or no breaks
My job is very involved and fast paced. We have to juggle phones, Instant messages, emails, new tickets, part orders, older tickets and more. I have learned how to multi task very well. I now that this job has made more productive, and I have gained a superior level of customer service skills.
The hardest part of this job is getting the tickets to – more... stay on our engineers routes. They will fall off for no apparent reason.
The thing I like most about this job is helping out our customers, and the guys in the field. It is very rewarding to know you have helped to make someone's day a little better. – less
Account Service Engineer (Current Employee), New York, NY – April 2, 2013
Always somthing new or different which also includes a challenge and ends with excitment. Team work is a must and the individual work load can be difficult but a job well do is very rewarding. Co-works are dependable and suportive. The hardest part is finding the infomation needed espacially when in the field and access to the support refference is – more... limited. – less
Engineer (Former Employee), Hopkinton – March 29, 2013
Pros: couldn't tell you.
Cons: employees are taken for granted and not valued.
There was a time that the company was customer AND employee-focused. But those days are long gone. There is constant pressure to get products out the door - ready or not - and usually not. Frequent unnecessary layoffs, added work to fewer resources, and chintzy or no raises (although this doesn't apply to the golden few at the top). Lots of cheerleading – more... about what a great company it is to work for, but no sharing in the success. Want a company that values its employees? Look elsewhere. – less
Production Environment with Proactive Personalities
Material Handler (Current Employee), Apex, NC – March 26, 2013
Pros: being able to work within a very proactive and respectful team.
Cons: n/a
When I'm at work, I am at work. Things need to get done at a timely manner to keep a business/company going. Its okay to have fun every now and then but the main focus in any business is to get the job done. I have worked in many different fields, and in every job I have worked involved a computer and and some sort of processing. Processing orders over – more... phone or online and even in person. Best part about this is the customer service. I am a very interactive person, I like to communicate, without communication you will never get customers what they need and or understand a co-workers point of view. That would be my strong point, also playing the roll of a leader. As manager I lead a team of 7 workers under me. – less
