East River Development Alliance (ERDA) Merchants Association is dedicated to
promoting a positive business environment in Long Island City that contributes to community revitalization and economic expansion while responding to the needs of residents and visitors. By working with property owners, the Merchants Association President will work to: transform unused or underused space into productive, mixed-use facilities; promote consensus and cooperation through partnerships among business owners to foster economic development; create a positive public image of North West Queens to attract investors, developers, and new businesses that will strengthen the entire area and its surroundings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Outreach and engage local Long Island City merchants to become active members in the Merchants Association (MA)
  • Plan and participate in Board meetings in keeping with the ERDA-MA By-Laws including developing and distributing communications, managing elections, and presenting annual budget
  • Implement monthly MA professional development series and assess the effectiveness of the series to continually improve on its value for members
  • Create and implement an economic development plan in partnership with local merchants to achieve goals and objectives of the MA
  • Identify and develop resources to support the goals of the MA
  • Ensure MA grant related deliverables are achieved including promotion of the MA, creation and management of local business database, and hosting of community engagement events
  • Collect required membership forms and dues from members
  • Represent the MA at local events, networking opportunities and meetings

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Business, Economics, or related field
  • At least 5 years professional experience in business, economic development or marketing
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Ability to work independently managing multiple goals and objectives
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial, high-energy, creative
  • Spanish fluency a plus
